Program Organized on the Second Anniversary of Miyawaki Plantation* at Dehradun Dehradun:

A program was organized by Dehradun based environmental action and advocacy group SDC Foundation on the occasion of the second anniversary of the Miyawaki Plantation in the Vasant Vihar area of Dehradun. People dedicated to environmental conservation, social workers, local residents, and school students actively participated in the event. The Miyawaki Plantation initiative is a joint effort of the Research Wing of the Forest Department, Vasant Vihar Society, SGI Foundation and SDC Foundation.

Sharing the details, Pyarelal from SDC Foundation informed that two years ago, under the Miyawaki Plantation initiative, a total of 350 saplings of 10 species — Yellow Amaltas, Tecoma, Neem, Drumstick (Sahjan), Amla, Bhimal, Kachnar, Putrajiva, Parijat, and Awnsgrass — were planted. Due to constant monitoring and follow up, the initiative has had a 90 percent plus survival rate during the two year period. He added that what started as a small-scale effort has now contributed to creating a greener environment in the area. He also elaborated on the scientific process of the Miyawaki method and the importance of community based tree plantation.

Dhirendra Sharma, President of the Vasant Vihar Society said that the participation of local residents is the biggest strength of this initiative. When society comes together, green transformation becomes possible. He further added that the Vasant Vihar Society will continue to fully support and cooperate with this important initiative of SDC Foundation and it’s partners in the future.

Ankit Agarwal, the municipal councilor of the Vasant Vihar area, was also present. Praising the Miyawaki method, he remarked that it is an effective means to increase green cover in urban areas. He assured that efforts will be made to expand this initiative further in municipal meetings.

Jaydeep Darshan Belwal, a teacher from Ambawati Doon Valley Inter College, said that this effort to connect with nature also serves as a living learning experience for young students. If every neighborhood and colony takes up such initiatives, the entire city can become green and vibrant.

The program saw the active participation from Captain M.P.S. Rawat, Surendra Barthwal, Rakesh Kapoor, Sushil Nautiyal, Ravi Juyal, Usha Dangwal, Annapurna Nautiyal, Vinod Nautiyal, Prerna Raturi from SGI Foundation, and teachers and students from Bhawani Balika Inter College and Ambawati Doon Valley Inter College, among other guests. The event was anchored by Dinesh Semwal from SDC Foundation.

In conclusion, Anoop Nautiyal, founder of SDC Foundation, expressed gratitude to all the guests, participants, school children, and local residents, stating that this plantation drive is not only about environmental conservation but also a pledge to ensure a safe and green future for coming generations. He emphasized that this campaign will continue with public participation.

The program laid special emphasis on community engagement and awareness so that more and more citizens can join this initiative, giving momentum to this collective journey of environmental protection. From SDC Foundation, members including Pramod, Subhash, Bittu, and Praveen were present during the event.
