Prof. Chowduri Upendra Rao, Senior Professor JNU bestowed with MG Dhadpale Excellence Award

Prof. Chowduri Upendra Rao, Senior Professor in the School of Sanskrit and Indic Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University, India has been bestowed with the prestigious “MG Dhadphale Excellence Award” for Creative writing in Pali for the year 2023, The Department of Pali and Buddhist Studies, Savitribai Phule University of Pune, with the support of Darphale’s family, presents this award to the rare Pali scholars in the country.
Prof. Upendra Rao received three gold medals from Osmania University and Banaras Hindu University. Prof. Rao mastered Sanskrit and Pali languages. His research interests are Sanskrit, Pali Buddhist literature and Sanskrit poetics.He was ICCR Chair Professor in Cambodia and taught Sanskrit, Pali and Buddhist philosophy at Sihanouk Raja Buddhist University and Phnom Penh Royal University.
He was visiting professor in the University of Latvia, at the National University of Kyiv mohyla Academy in Ukraine; L. N. Gumilev National university, Astana in Kazakhstan, where he taught Sanskrit and Buddhism
