The hectic Common Wealth Games finally came to an end with India scoring in all 61 medals five less than the previous 66 medals bagged in CWG, held four years ago. Out of the 61 medals, India got 22 Gold, 16 Silvers and 23 Bronze. India is on the fourth number in the Common Weath countries that are ahead of it, in the total medals tally. What is interesting and laudable for India is the good news that in Badminton its outstanding players have collected three Gold Medals on the final day with badminton champion PV Sindhu, youngest badminton champ from Kumaon Uttarakhand Lakshya Sen and Satvisairaj Ranki Reddy)/ Chirag Shetty winning Golds and Sharat Kamal adding another Gold in Table Tennis Singles. While the Indian hockey team bagged Silver, G Sathiyan won the bronze medal in an event. The youngest gold medallist in badminton Lakshay Sen was born in 2001 trained by his father D. K. Sen. His elder brother is also a badminton player. A former world junior badminton player number 1, Lakshay Sen has won two Gold medals in 2018 Asian Junior Championship Games in the boys singles and at Summer Youth Olympics in the mixed team event. He again bagged a bronze medal in 2021 World Championships and was a runner up in 2022 All England Open matches. He was also the part of the Indian Badminton team that won the prestigious Thomas cup. Meanwhile, prime minister Narendra Modi also congratulated PV Sindhu and Lakshay Sen for winning gold medals on the final day of Common Wealth Games. Terming Sindhu as phenomenal and champion of champions prime minister NarendraModi tweeted : The phenomenal@Pvsindhu is a champion of champions! She repeatedly shows what excellence is all about. Her dedication and commitment is awe inspiring. Congratulations to her on winning the Gold medal at the CWG. Wishing her the best for her future endeavours with hashtag cheers for India.
While congratulating the youngest gold medal winner in badminton Lakshay Sen from Kumaon, Uttarakhand prime minister Narendra Modi tweeted : Elated by the accomplishment of Lakshya Sen. Congratulations on winning the Gold medal in Badminton. He’s played excellently through the CWG and showed outstanding resilience during the finals. He is India’s pride. Best wishes to him for his future endeavours tweeted PM Modi.
Posting his pic with Lakshya Sen, Uttarakhand chief minister also congratulated Sen and PV Sindhu. In a tweet in Hindi while congratulating Sen CM Dhami wrote : Shabash ( Well Done) Lakshya…! Heartiest Congratulations to Lakshya Sen for winning gold medal after performing extraordinarily in the competition in Common Wealth Games securing a Gold medal. The IPS n DG of Uttarakhand police Ashok Kumar also heartily congratulated Lakshya and extended his gracious thanks to his father who has coached his son so dedicatedly that he brought the Gold for the country at such a young age in badminton.
