President gives written consent to UCC, Uttarakhand becomes the second state after GOA to implement UCC
Uttarakhand has become the second state after Goa to implement the Uniform Civil Code after it was passed by the Uttarakhand Assembly and then secured the consent of president Draupadi Murmu on 12 th March finally becoming a law. The Uttarakhand model of Uniform Civil Code can become an example for implementation of UCC at the national level reveal sources. The CAA and the UCC have been implemented when the general elections are round the corner. The Congress leaders say that the implementation of UCC is just a ploy to exploit votes during the elections through alleged polarisation. The Uttarakhand chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami had during the 2022 assembly elections have publicly promised the state’s electorates in various public meeting during election campaigning that once they come to power in the state, they will surely implement the UCC. However, he had also pledged to implement the Concrete land Act in view of the repeated demands of state electorates but the CM merely appointed a committee in this regard chaired by the former chief secretary Subhash Kumar who had send their recommendations to the CM. However, instead of implementing the UCC despite tremendous state wife protests the CM preferred leaving behind the recommendations of concrete land law on the lines of the one implemented in Himachal Pradesh and preferred UCC.
It may be recalled that the BJP’s main agenda had been three primary demands since 1980. One : Abrogation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir, Implementation of Uniform Civil Code and Construction of Ram Temple. All the three demands seems to have been fulfilled though UCC demand partly.
In Uttarakhand there had been several demands which were pledged by BJP leaders, the foremost being making Gairsain its permanent capital and implementation of Concrete Land Act including Mool Niwas Praman Patra 1950 related long pending demand, but the saffron party has the single agenda in mind in order to polarise the majority community votes and that’s the reason all the demands have been thrown to winds and UCC implemented expeditiously as general elections are just a month and a half away to be declared within three days.
