PCI strongly condemns high handed actions of Punjab police stopping newspapers supply and urged to ensure unhindered supply of newspapers

The Press Club of India expresses grave concern over the wanton act of the Punjab Police in indulging in large-scale stopping and checking of vehicles transporting daily newspapers across the state Sunday morning.

In a statement issued in New Delhi PC President Gautam Lahiri  said such action in several districts almost completely disrupted the supply of newspapers throughout the state today.

It has been reported that newspaper vehicles were stopped at several places, checked and even taken to police stations for further intensive checking and the vehicle staff harassed and intimidated said PCI chief.

The Press Club of India condemns such high-handedness by the Punjab Police which tantamount to attack on the fundamental right of press freedom.

It demands that the Punjab Government immediately intervenes and takes steps to restore normalcy and ensure unhindered supply of newspapers across the state said the statement signed by PCI chief Gautam Lahiri.
