PCI on behalf of 21 media organisations and 1000 journalists from all over India submit memorandum to Principal DG Press Information Bureau addressed to Minister of I and B

The president and secretary general of the largest organisation of working journalists in Delhi – Press Club of India Gautam Lahiri and Neeraj Thakur today handed over a memorandum to the principal Director General of Press Information Bureau Dhirendra Ojha addressed to the union minister for Electronics and Information and Broadcasting ( MeitY) Ashwani Vaishnav on behalf of twenty one media organisations and one thousand journalists at the pan India level urging him to keep the professional work of journalists across print , online and electronics media outside the preview / scope of the Personal Data Protection Act (DPDP ) 2023.

The concerns expressed in the joint memorandum were cumulatively put together by the Press Club of India after an in-depth study of various definitions and provisions of the act with legal and personel Data experts.

According to PCI chief Gautam Lahiri the act comes directly against the journalists’ fundamental rights to work granted by article 19 (1) (a) and (g) of the constitution.

As per the version of the PCI chief Lahiri and Secretary general Thakur the DG PIB has confirmed that the memorandum has been delivered to the minister Mr. Vaishnav and they too have confirmed having been personally acknowledged by the minister officially.

The PCI has sought appointment with the minister to discuss this important issue and are awaiting the confirmation at the earliest.
