The elections of Press Club of India have been announced for 9 th November and the nominations that started on 21 st October will continue till 28 th October with withdrawal till 2nd November. The final list of the probable candidates will be displayed on the notice board thereafter in the evening at PCI.

There doesn’t seem to be any challenge to the strong and consolidated panel of the Gautam Lahiri and Neeraj Thakur Panel which is repeating this time as well except few changes due to the expiry of the terms of some managing committee members and two office bearers.

The Gautam Lahiri Panel which has won the previous year has done lot of works for the welfare and well being of the Press Club of India including organising seminars, protest meetings etc for Press freedom.

It also organised several workshops and photo exhibitions and arranged a fixed deposit of Rs 25 lakhs which is an outstanding achievement.

The Press Club will soon have a solar system of its own to reduce the exorbitant electricity bills which are a huge burden in PCI management.

Apart from these achievements the PCI has also organised entertaining functions , cultural events in the club for the entertainment of PCI members and their families on various occasions with delicious dishes including also launching of awards for outstanding journalists, photo and video journalists etc.

Though the present panel of Gautam Lahiri seems to be in quite a comfortable position to win on all seats as before – there is no formidable panel as such, except some individuals contesting to fulfil their over ambition who have contested number of times but never succeeded.

Meanwhile , the Press Club of India’s Chief Gautam Lahiri has while extending his warm greetings to all the members of management committee and his dedicated team reflected on the achievements of the past year, highlighting the Club’s strides in maintaining the financial stability and its incessant contribution in freedom of media and expression.

Lauding the contribution of PCI in holding several protests, seminars , meetings and also communicating with central government on media media freedom Lahiri said that PCI has not only upheld media independence but has also nurtured open dialogues and welcomed diverse views since the establishment of the Press Club of India in 1958 creating a robust platform for India’s scribes. He also revealed that PCI is also likely to be included in Press Council of India, which is indeed a great achievement.

While accquainting the members about the Club’s financial achievements PCI president Gautam Lahiri said that by its dexterity the Club management has not only overcome the past losses of Rs 10 lakhs but has successfully arranged to do a fix deposit of Rs 25 lakhs which is no less than an outstanding achievement said PCI chief. Mentioning about the Club’s success in fostering public discourse by hosting monthly discussions of important developments including book launches and discussions inviting authors in the PCI conference hall Gautam Lahiri said that the club has also been inviting journalists delegations from abroad and acknowledging their invitations including strengthening PCI ties with various journalist organisation at global levels. He said that the PCI’s photo exhibition was a grand success and several photographs were sold too stating further that PCI intends to organise such photo and painting exhibitions at a good level in future too.

The Secretary General Neeraj Thakur appealed to all to ask for panel vote instead of single vote. He supported Lahiri’s suggestion that every MC Member should contact and ensure minimum fifty votes for sure. Sanjay Singh , sr journalist n PCI member urged every contestant to be in the PCI premises every day and ensure personal contacts with each and every member asking for panel votes and not in individual basis.
