One die and a friend grievously injured after a boulder fell on a running bike at Almora Bhavali highway near “Kainchi Dham” Temple

Natural calamities and ecological disasters are claiming several lives in various parts of Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh.

The recent incidents of a massive landslides in Sirmaur and Kinnaur districts have claimed several lives when boulders came down with high speed including large chunks of hills damaging iron bridges n heavy steel railing, burying buses n vehicles killing several passengers.

In Garhwal and Kumaon divisions of Uttarakhand too incidents of cloud bursts, deluges and boulder felling including heavy landslides during terrifying monsoons have become the order of the day.

Just today on Thursday, a young boy has succumbed on the spot due to a boulder felling on him while he along with a friend were commuting on a motorcycle on Almora Bhavali highway near Thuva mountains at Dopankhi. His another friend has been grievously injured admitted to a hospital via 108 ambulance.

According to a latest news report both the youths were heading for Almora from Haldwani with some work. While they were passing by Dopankhi near Thuva mountain range some boulders fell on the running motercycle, badly hitting him sending the bike deep down in a gorge along with both of them.

Both the youths of Mangal Padaav, Haldwani, namely Saurabh Sagar and Pankaj Goswami were going to Almora Medical College regarding some work, probably to fix a flexi but unfortunately this deadly accident happened, killing one on the spot and another friend getting grievously injured in an unconscious state.

According to the SDM Anurag Arya the deceased Saurav Sagar and his grievously injured friend Pankaj were retrieved from the gorge by the local police and some Army jawans passing by on the highway.

While 26 year old Saurav was declared dead on the spot , another boy was ferried to High care centre via 108 Ambulance.

There is a prominent temple here, known as Baba Neem Kirori’s Kaichi Dham and the movement of traffic is too much with devotees coming here in large numbers.

This national Highway had been widened earlier but the incidents of boulders and stones coming downwards have increases especially during the monsoon season posing great risk for the passers by and vehicles, big and small. During the last one year there have been thirty unfortunate incidents of boulders falling from mountains and speeding vehicles going in the gorge resulting in thirty casualties.
