One-day awareness program on “The environmental hazards of polymers” under “Jigyasa 2.0 program” organized at CSIR-Indian Institute of Petroleum, Dehradun.

A One-day awareness program on “The environmental hazards of polymers” under “Jigyasa 2.0 program” in association with Social Development for Communities (SDC) Foundation was successfully organized on 06 August 2024 at CSIR-Indian Institute of Petroleum, Dehradun. In this awareness program students (150 no.) from IXth -XIIth class of different government schools viz. Mahaveer Jain kanya Paathshala, Tilak Road; GIC, Khurbura; Shri Guru Ram Rai Public School, Bindal; Sanatan Dharm Kanya Inter College, Geeta Bhawan; Mangla Devi Inter College, EC Road; Sophia High School, Neshvilla Road; GIC, Dhobhalwala, Government Girls Inter College, Rajpur Road; Shri Guru Ram Rai, Racecourse; Shri Gurunanak Doon Vale School, Racecourse; Ambawati Doon Valley Inter College, Panditwari; Bhawani Ballika Inter College, Ballupur; Mount Fort Academy, Indra Nagar; Shri Guru Ram Rai, Patel Nagar of Dehradun region have participated. The main objective of the program is to make the students aware about the Plastic waste and how we can reuse or recycle to minimize its environment impact and to keep our city clean.

Dr. Harender Bisht, Director, CSIR-IIP in his talk to students briefed about the different types of plastics and emphasize also to check for plastic type before use. As some plastics are recyclable and reuse of waste plastic will lead to waste free environment. He also tells students about the CSIR-IIP technology for conversion of waste plastic to biofuel such as gasoline, diesel, petrol. Dr. Aarti’s brief about the Jigyasa program also makes aware students of advanced research work and technologies developed at CSIR-IIP. She also urges students to wisely use the plastics for clean and green environment. Dr. Anoop Nautiyal, Founder, Social Development for Communities (SDC) Foundation, have discuss about the plastic waste get generated in Dehradun city, collection plastic waste and their recyclability will help in making the Dehradun city a clean city. Dr. Umesh Kumar, Principal Scientist, CSIR-IIP delivered a talk on different types of polymers and how these polymers make different types of plastics. Besides this, students also visited to pilot plant of plastic waste conversion to biofuel and process for conversion of Used cooking oil to biodiesel at room temperature and Advanced Crude Oil Research Centre. In the organization of this program Dr. Ankur Bordoloi, Principal Scientist; Dr. Kamal Kumar, Sr. Technical Officer; Dr. Jyoti Porwal, Sr. Technical Officer; Dr. Raghuvir Singh, Sr. Technical Officer; Dr. Deependra Tripathi, Sr. Technical Officer; Dr. Pradeep Tyagi, Sr. Technical Officer; Mr. Pradeep Pundir, Mr. Mukul Sharma, Mr. Sanjay Maurya, Mr. Gokul and Mr. Ajay Pal, played an exemplary part in making the program a success. The whole program was coordinated by the Jigyasa coordinator, Dr. Aarti, Principal Scientist CSIR-IIP.
