ON THE POLLING DAY OF DELHI UNIVERSITY STUDENTS UNION POLLS THE NSUI LEADER CLASHES WITH PROFESSOR OF LAW FACULTY IN A POLLING BOOTH

The polling in the most significant Delhi University Students Union elections are underway today with twenty candidates for all the four posts in the fray hailing from ABVP, NSUI, AISF, SFI, AIDSO, and as independents. Around 1.40 lakh students hailing from 52 colleges are the voters though there is maximum 40% of the student electorates who go for voting, sometimes even thirty percent.

This trend is not healthy from the point of view of the 60 to 70% students’ non participation in the DUSU elections which is also indicative of the genuine students not showing much interest in these democratic elections obviously due to the rampant political intervention by the students wings of national political parties like BJP and Congress exhibiting tremendous money power, at times physical fights and genuine student leaders with poor financial backing not having their say.

The elections of DUSU are quite different from JNU elections where debates take place and the electorates vote keeping in view the mental status and knowledge oriented expertise and capabilities of the candidates which include national and international issues too apsrt from domestic issues but in Delhi University elections there is hardly any consideration of debates and discussions with just money and muscle power being used violating the Lyndoch commissions recommendations at times.

While today the polling is going on , according to the latest news in one of the polling stations of Delhi University a physical fight ensued between the joint secretary of the National Students Union and a professor of Law Faculty who was incharge of the polling booth.

While the polling was under progress the joint secretary of the NSUI entered the polling station with a badge of NSUI tied on his chest.

While the arguments started between the furious NSUI joint secretary the Law Faculty professor, incharge objected to he NSUI badge worn by the NSUI joint secretary who started arguing leading to physical attack on the professor Mr. Jha creating quite an uproar n furore in the polling station with the student electorates and other staff trying to diffuse the situation.

There are reports that when the incharge of the polling booth professor Jha objected to NSUI leaders shouting and wearing the badge, which is forbidden during elections inside the polling booth, Neeraj Choudhary, joint secretary NSUI alongwith his friends, activists physically attacked the professor even threatening him using unparliamentary language.

According to the witnesses Lokesh Choudhary was directly involved in the physical fight with the teacher alongwith his colleagues.

Meanwhile, after the intervention of the court, the counting results that were to be announced tomorrow evening after the counting have been postponed under the pretext of the DU authorities not able to set requisite standards to deal effectively with the situation arising out of the violation of the DU rules to arrange a system to deal with the norms for free and fair elections.

The court literary took the authorities to task scolding the senior officials to degrade the system asking them to set fixed credible standards to conduct the elections in a free and fair manner saying further that if the university will not discipline its students then who will do this ? It said you have all the requisite credible powers. You can expel and disqualify the erring students but you can’t discipline 22 candidates.
