Neurosurgery experts of RML warn – Head injuries may lead to Kidney injury

A conference was held on the ocassion of the World Brain Injury Awareness Day and World Kidney Day at ABVIMS and Dr.RML Hospital , New Delhi by the Department of Neurosurgery and Nephrology jointly under the theme Safe Childhood commenced with a Safe Brain and Are Your Kidneys OK ?

The conference took place on 20 th March at the Lecture Theatre 4, ABVIMS, Administrative Block. This whole day session concluded in the evening.

On the ocassion of the World head injury several experts of Neurosurgery department of Ram Manohar Lohia hospital expressed their pivotal views to aware the audience and also warn as to how head injuries can lead to acute kidney injuries through various mechanism which include the neuroen – doctrine pathways , systematic inflammation and hemodynamic changes.

According to the proceedings of the full day significant event held at the RML precincts the Director, Professor and head of the Neurosurgery department Dr. Ajay Choudhary said that the current year’s main theme being safe childhood starts with the safe brain “, etc we are focussing our discussion of this particular theme as most of the head injury patients are children or Young Adults.

Emphasising on broadly three types of head injuries Dr. Ajay Choudhary said these head injuries are based on the severity of its nature like mild, moderate and severe adding that the Mild Injury is conscious patient with symptoms of vomiting , vertigo , headache and seizures.

The discussions were interesting with experts of the Neurosurgery department of RML hospital giving their best as Dr. Sharad Pandey , Professor of Neurosurgery said that through this particular event we want to significantly create the mobilisation and awareness about the head injuries among the children and adults in order to caution them of the serious consequences of such head injuries.

Dwelling on the relation between the head injuries and its consequences on the Kidney – another expert Dr. Muthu Kumar said every organ of the human body is controlled by the brain and so is the case with the kidney. He warned – if brain is injured it may lead to Kidney complications too. The moderators of this important deliberations were Professor of Neuroanaesthesiology and Neurocritical Care AIIMS, New Delhi Dr. SuryaKumar Dubey and Professor of Anesthesia, ABVIMS , RML Dr. Sandeep Kumar.
