Navjyot Singh Sidhu demands construction of memorial in honour of former PM Dr.Singh. Writes to President Murmu
The senior leader and former Congress president of Punjab – famous for making couplets within seconds on any prevailing situation, also the chief guest in Kapil Sharma comedy show Navjyot Singh Sidhu has demanded construction of the memorial of the former prime minister Dr. Manmohan Singh at Rajghat.
In a letter written to the president of India Draupadi Murmu, Navjyot Singh Sidhu urged the president to direct the central government to construct a memorial in honour of the former prime minister Dr. Manmohan Singh.
This letter of Navjyot Singh Sidhu was written to President just a day after there were allegations of denigrating the reputation of the first Sikh prime minister by consigning him to flames at Rajghat, not honouring the letter and request of the Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi for building a memorial for him who had served the nation with immense dedication as PM taking India to new heights of progress and prosperity for ten long years. The Congress has accused the government for not allowing a special place for construction of memorial in the name of the highly dignified and distinguished ex prime minister whose contribution in various important capacities including PM have been exceptional and outstanding especially bringing India out of the throes of economic instability touching new heights of economic progress.
The former prime minister breathed his last in 26 December due the the age related ailments and accorded the final adieu on 28 th December at Rajghat.
Enclosing his one and a half page letter addressed to president Draupadi Murmu Navjyot Singh Sidhu wrote on X : My letter to the Hon’ble President of India : A call to protect India’s glorious democratic tradition and honor the towering legacy of Dr. Manmohan Singh. Our former PMs have been memorialized—why should he be denied his rightful place? This is not just about a memorial; it’s about upholding historic norms and the dignity of our democracy. India must rise above petty parish pump politics. The letter mentions that all former prime ministers including Pt.Jawahar Lal Nehru, Lal Bahadur Shastri, Indira Gandhi , Rajiv Gandhi and Atal Bihari Vajpayee etc have their memorials but this tradition was conspicuously broken when Dr.Singh was created at Nigam Bodh Ghat. It is alarming to note that this departure from tradition reels if visible insecurity and political bais.
