Nandi Sanwal of Damuvadunga, Nainital brutally killed by a man eater leopard

The incidents of brutal man eater killings in Uttarakhand are going unabated with women be coming the immediate victims. On Thursday a woman of Damuadoonga village in district Nainital succumbed to the man eater attack while she had gone to the jungle to mow grass for the domestic cows and buffaloes as usual. The name of the woman was Nandi Sanwal.

There is shock wave around and the people are in immense panic. Such incidents have become an order of the day with the forest and wild life department doing nothing to ensure safety of the villagers especially school going kids, girls n boys and the women going to their fields for agricultural chores and arranging green fodder for the domestic animals. In Garhwal and Kumaon regions of Uttarakhand man eater attacks have made the life of villagers extremely miserable with no safety n security from wild animals especially bears and man eater leopards usually roaming near the human habitats prowling for human flesh.

The president of Uttarakhand Forests Rights Movement ( Uttarakhand Vanadhikar Andolan) Kishore Upadhyay has criticized the government for doing nothing to ensure the protection of village populace from carnivores demanding financial compensation of Rs fifty lakhs for the bereaved family and a government job for the next of the kin of the victim. In a tweet the former Congress president and founding leader of the Vanadhikar movement of Uttarakhand Upadhyay tweeted under the title : Give us our forest rights,

A resident woman Mrs Nandi Sanwal of Damvuadoonga village in district Nainital who had gone to the jungle to mow grass for domestic animals have been attacked and killed by a man eater leopard. Upadhyay demanded a permanent government job for the next of the kin and Rs 50 lakhs a financial compensation to the bereaved family.

The forest department guards reached the spot after locating the dead body and sent it for postmortem to complete the legal formalities.

In 27 th June last year a one and a half year old toddler was snatched away by a leopard in Sila Bahman village in Jakholi Tehsil of Rudraprayag while he was playing in a compound of his house. After constant search by the forest department guards and the professional hunters the man eater can’t be traced finally hunted down within 48 hours. This was the 7 th kill of the man eater by the professional hunter hired by the wild life department after number of deaths by these carnivores.
