I USED TO HIDE UNDER THE COT WHEN MY FATHER ASSAULTED ME WHILE I WAS A CHILD : SWATI MALIWAL, CHAIRPERSON, DCW

The Delhi Commission for Women chairperson Mrs Swati Maliwal today compelled everyone to bite their nails when she disclosed that she herself was the victim of her father’s physical assault till fourth standard as he used to beat her terribly, sometimes even pulling her “choti”, hair, and she used to take shelter under the cot.she was even smashed against the wall n she profusely bleeding at times. It was then that she vowed to free the oppressed girls and women from the tyranny of men one day.

While speaking to media ( ANI) in an award function where awards were presented to brave and distinguished women by a Delhi minister and some dignitaries – Delhi Women Commission chairperson Swati Maliwal became emotional saying that the event made her extremely emotional as the relentless struggle stories of the awardees ( women) reminded her of her own personal struggle when her arrogant father used to beat her regularly, sometimes even by lifting her by the hair compelling her to take refuge under the cot. Narrating her anguishing and terror stricken story as a child till fourth standard facing blows from her own father Swati Maliwal said : My father used to thrash me a lot, even lift by my hair almost everyday after he came home, compelling me to hide under the cot ( bed). They were the most horror full days and it was then I used to think that one day when I am grow up I will leave no stone unturned to work for oppressed women to get them rid of exploitation. He even said that at times he used to hold me by the hair and hit me against the wall. She was so very much scared till she was in fourth standard. She said that it was this troublesome period of my childhood days that ignited in me immense grit n determination to continue my relentless struggle for the safety and security of women community. A cabinet minister of Delhi government Raj Kumar Anand and acting high commissioner of Canada Mrs Amada Strohan delivered the prestigious, women awards to distinguished women in a glittering function held in Delhi. According to an ANI tweet : I was sexually assaulted by my father when I was a child. He used to beat me up, I used to hide under the bed, ” DFW chief Swati Maliwal expressed her ordeal alleging her father sexually assaulted her during childhood tweeted ANI.
