Mount Everest conqueror Savita Kanswal succumbs to avalanche at DKD peak 2 with 9 other deaths. CM sanctions Rs 2 lakh to the dead of Pauri accident n avalanche victims n Rs 1 lakh to the injured.

There is an extremely sad and heart wrenchinv news about the tragic death of the mount Everest conquerer and an adventurous ace mountaineer Savita Kanswal who met her sad end when an severe avalanche occured at peak 2,DRAUPADI KA DAANDA at 8.15 AM while a team of thirty mountaineers of NIM were returning back to base camp at 14000 feet after conquering the above peak on Tuesday.

Renowned young ace mountaineer Savita was also credited with raising the national flag at “Sagar Maatha”, in the month of May.

There are reports of ten mountaineers having been killed in this massive avalanche while thirty getting trapped at Draupadi Ka Daanda Peak 2 in Uttarakashi district.

According to the latest news the thirty four mountaineers were part of the team of trainers, with seven instructors and a nursing assistant from the Nehru Institute of Mountaineers ( NIM).

The Draupadi Ka Daanda Peak 2 is situated at an altitude of about 14000 feet while the NIM’s base camp is at 13000 feet.

The avalanche occured early morning when the mountaineers were returning back from DKD peak 2 for the base camp.

The avalanche was so powerful that all the mountaineers were trapped under the snow being roped as well.

According to sources while the four dead bodies have been retrieved there are news of ten dead bodies having been sighted.

The Nehru Institute of Mountaineering after its training course which began on September 14 , the trainer mountaineers arrived at the base camp at the feet of 13000 in snow clad high altitude mountains.

At 4 AM on Tuesday they moved to high altitude navigation to mount Draupadi ka Daanda peak 2 as per the information given by NIM.

However, while everything was going well, while returning back they were suddenly hit by a massive avalanche.

This led to 34 mountaineers getting badly trapped under the snow with ten reportedly dying.

The Indian Airforce team, SDRF n NDRF were pressed into service who after extensive search operations retrieved four dead bodies with operation stopped in the night due to poor visibility n inclement weather, starting again the next day.

The Defence minister Rajnath Singh who was contacted by NIP assured of all cooperation. In his tweets defence minister Rajnath Singh wrote : Deeply anguished by the loss of precious lives due to landslide which has struck the mountaineering expedition carried out by the Nehru Mountaineering Institute in Uttarkashi. My condolences to the bereaved families who has lost their loved ones. I have instructed the IAF to mount the rescue and relief operations. Praying for everyone’s safety and well being tweeted Defence minister Rajnath Singh.

The Uttarakhand chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami while expressing his deepest condolences tweeted : In view of the avalanche at Draupadi Ka Daanda Peak 2 and road accident at Pauri, I have sanctioned the financial compensation of Rs 2 lakhs for each of the dead and Rs. 1 lakh for the grievously injured and Rs 50 thousand for simple injured with immediate effect.
