Sonauli (Maharajganj). The impact of the ongoing violence in Nepal has started to deepen on the trade of Uttar Pradesh.
More than 500 trucks going from UP to Nepal are stranded at the border, carrying goods worth about Rs 200 crore.
In normal circumstances, it takes two to three days to deliver goods to Nepal, but at present the vehicles are stuck at the border. Every year, about 12 thousand crores worth of goods are exported from UP, in which UP’s share is 28 percent.
Exports include machinery, iron-steel, chemicals, food grains, auto parts, leather products and mobile-electronics.
Exporters have expressed apprehension that if the situation does not improve for a long time, payments may get stuck and there will be huge losses.
Some exporters are preparing to recall trucks, although the trade community is hopeful that the situation at the border will soon normalise and trade will pick up pace again.
