Mithun Chakraborty to get third highest civilian award “Dada Saheb Phalke Award”

After being awarded the prestigious Padma Bhushan this year , renowned and veteran filmstar Mithun Chakraborty has been nominated by the union government for this year Babasaheb Phalke award, the biggest award of the Film industry and the third highest civilian award bestowed by the government of India every year to an outstanding veteran film personality. Chakraborty will be the second Bengali actor to recieve this highest cinema and third house guest civilian award of the country after renowned Bengali actor Soumitra Chatterjee bagging it in the year 2011. The announcement was made by the Information and Broadcasting minister Ashwani Vaishnav on her social media handle X today. He wrote on X : Mithun Da’s remarkable cinematic journey inspires generations! Honoured to announce that the Dadasaheb Phalke Selection Jury has decided to award legendary actor, Sh. Mithun Chakraborty Ji for his iconic contribution to Indian Cinema to be presented at the 70th National Film Awards ceremony on Oct 8, 2024. The three member selection committee comprising of veteran actress n Dada Saheb Awardee Asha Parekh, actor politician Khushboo Sunder and filmmaker Atul Amritlal Shah selected the name of Mithun Chakraborty for this prestigious award.
Meanwhile the prime minister Narendra Modi congratulated the veteran actor Mithun Chakraborty who had joined BJP before the Bengal assembly elections obviously at the behest of prime minister. The PM write on X : Delighted that Shri Mithun Chakraborty Ji has been conferred the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award, recognizing his unparalleled contributions to Indian cinema.

On hearing the news about his selection for Dada Saheb Phalke Award Mithun Chakraborty was thrilled saying he has no words to express his pleasure. A former Rajya Sabha member of Parliament Mithun Chakraborty also served as the Grandmaster on the popular dance reality show “Dance India Dance”, from 2009 to 2018.
