Massive illegal mining in progress at Shrikot, Srinagar

At Srinagar Srikot the illegal mining is so rampant and extensive that a major part of the river and river bank has been extracted arbitrarily despite the hard fact that the offices of the SDM, Tehsildar, SHO are few metres away. This extensive illegal mining at Srinagar, Shrikot without being allocated the licence to mine is an open loot of the mineral and natural resources by the mining mafia this badly destroying and disturbing our rivers and already fragile environment and ecology of the Himalayas. The Regional Reporter representative reached the illegal mining spot not ince but thrice at 4.00 AM early in the morning and saw for themselves four trucks illegally collecting the sand and frequenting conveniently without any hitch. The reporter talked to the SHO who said ” Dikhwa raha hoon and ge tehsildar reached the spot though by then all the trucks with overloaded sand had already left the venue. This is how in various locations of Uttarakhand including at Shrikot, Srinagar, Garhwal, Uttarakhand the illegal mining is happening frequently without any fear of law despite the fact that they have not been issued the licence to excavate the minerals. This is a clear understanding cation of an open loot of natural resources in Uttarakhand in Srinagar, Kotdwar, Rishikesh and other locations of Kumaon division of Uttarakhand. Meanwhile, the Tehsildar who reached the spot after after receiving the phone said that he will despite his team at the site and ensure that the illegal mining didn’t take place in future.
