Manual Scavenging should be discouraged. Kumaon Commissioner IAS Deepak Rawat recommends the usage of Robotic machines to clear the sewage and silt in gutters !
Mannual Scavenging is not only degrading human dignity but also claims good number of lives every year in different parts of the country and in Uttarakhand too. It needs to be discouraged not only to save the lives of those working manually practically dipping themselves inside gutters and severs putting their lives in acute danger by inhaling toxic gases usually dying of asphyxiation but also to restore human dignity.
Moreover the big severs clearing machines can’t enter the squeezed areas and cleaning the severs or gutters is a big challenge. Therefore this needs to done by a new robotic machine having come into existence in Uttarakhand which not only clears ( lifts) 20 to 25 Kgs of silt) at the first instance from gutters or severs in no time but it also shows the toxic gases on it’s screen generated inside the gutters with faeces ( human, animal excreta) and silt etc.
Speaking to media in Nainital township after watching the entire operation himself with the staff of the Robotic machine, the Commissioner of Kumaon IAS Deepak Rawat lauded its functioning and said that these machines are very useful to discourage human or manual scavenging posing direct threat to human lives, especially in squeezed colonies and residential areas where big sewer clearing machines are not feasible due to narrow streets n lanes in residential colonies or commercial precincts etc.
Lauding the manufacturers of these Robotic machines, clearing severs and gutters without human intervention IAS Deepak Rawat strongly recommended the usage of these machines in Nainital district finding them extremely useful and convenient in use.
According to its manufacturers – these robotic sewer clearing machines are being used is several parts of Uttarakhand currently.
The Commissioner of Kumaon IAS Deepak Rawat strongly recommended the usage of these machines and said that he will write to the higher authorities to allocate sizeable budget for buying these machines in order to put them in urgent usage in Nainital district and other parts of the state.
Kindly recall that according to official figures about 971 persons have died from 1993 to 2022 while cleaning sewers and gutters at the pan India level, their bereaved poor n hapless families still awaiting justice from the concerned government departments or private owners including judiciary.
I fully agree with the Cpmmissioner Kumao Division of Uk Mr Deepak Rawat, IAS. Getting such done through human being is to demean their status of human being. Acquiring Robotic sever cleaners is highly required to grant scavenging human being a right to equality and status of human being.
