Maneater Leopard who tragically killed a four year old girl trapped in a cage

On Tuesday morning the under the jurisdiction of Garhwal Forest division at Shrikot village in Pauri Garhwal district a leopard has been caged in the iron cage fixed by the forest department. This step by the forest department was necessitated after the Maneater leopard has made a girl of four years its prey the other day, killing her brutally by pouncing upon her in her house compound.

The veterinary experts will now after series of tests confirm whether this carnivore is the maneater or not.

According to the latest news two days ago a four year old baby child was grabbed by a maneater and taken to the nearby bushes and tragically killed sending shock waves all around.

There wes panic in the entire Village Shrikot and the Pokhra block with residents fearing more such attacks on their children.

The forest department of Garhwal range on the demand of the infuriated villagers fixed an iron cage in the Shrikot village periphery and the maneater got trapped on Tuesday morning sending sigh of relief among the villagers.

The District Magistrate Swati S Bhadauria said that drone cameras and trap cameras were installed to monitor the activities of the leopard. Keeping public safety in mind, the district administration and the forest department took immediate action. The necessary legal formalities were completed by the SDM, police and health department team on the very night of the incident and three cages were installed in the village by the forest department. After obtaining the permission from the Forest Conservator and Chief Wildlife Warden, tranquilizer snipers were immediately deployed. The forest department team was also patrolling continuously and the administration, public cooperation and the forest department together made this campaign a success says Garhwal DM Swati Bhadoria. DFO Jeevan Mohan Dagade said that the leopard was caught in a cage placed at a distance of about 30 meters from the spot. He said that now the health check-up of the leopard will be done and information about its age and gender is also being collected.
