Maneater leopard captured in iron cage by the forest department at Dandriyal village in Pokhra, Pauri Garhwal

A maneater leopard who had grievously injured a forty one year old woman in Ghandiyal, Pokhra , in Pauri Garhwal district has been captured by the forest department in an iron cage after the outraged local residents pressurised them to kill the maneater.
The cabinet minister of forests Subodh Uniyal had also been very strict and passed directives to protect the affected villagers from these carnivores many of whom have turned maneaters.
The captured maneater GULDAAR is very healthy and dangerous roaring from inside the iron cage.
The local residents of Ghandiyal, Pokhra and surrounding areas have for the time being heaved a immense sign of relief.
The local schools were closed for several days in Pokhra Development block in view of the increasing attacks of the maneaters and subsequent apprehension of the local residents especially the women and school going children.
On November 15, a resident of Ghandiyal village in Pokhra development block , aged 41 years Prabha Devi was grievously injured by this maneater who is undergoing treatment in Kotdwar district government hospital.
On Thursday in Koti Gaon of Pauri Garhwal district a woman was tragically killed by a maneater who had gone to cut grass alongwith her daughter in law for domestic pets.
The maneater pounced on her all of a sudden and made her its prey .
The woman died despite trying her best to come out of the dreaded shackles of the maneater leopard.
The deadly incidents of leopard maneaters and wild bear attacks are on the increase in Garhwal, Uttarakhand with Pauri Garhwal , Chamoli and Rudraprayag district becoming the most affected areas.
In Srinagar, Garhwal the enraged women and villagers had yesterday protested and jammed the traffic .
The minister of forests and wild life Subodh Uniyal took serious view of the ongoing maneater attacks on human being and subsequent fatalities and directed the senior officers to kill the maneaters if they are real threat to human lives.
There have been several instances when group of five maneaters are seen near the villages resting in agricultural fields which have gone barren with shrubs coming up giving them the shape of jungles.
After the massive exodus of villagers to cities, towns and metropolises in the absence of good schools, health centres and jobs the villages have become lonely and people less thus no one working in agricultural farmlands making them barren and shrubs coming up tremendously.
The leopards, wild bears, monkeys, pigs are coming there in abundance and hide behind bushes and shrubs.
When the women come their for fodder , these man- eaters’ pounce in them making them their easy prey.
Similarly, during the winters the wild bear come downwards from snow clad peaks for food and make the woman their easy prey.
