The Congress chief and veteran leader Mallikarjun Kharge has urged the prime minister Narendra Modi to accord the former prime minister and statesman Dr. Manmohan Singh a respectable funeral at a dignified place where a memorial of his can be built in the near future. Kindly recall that in a most immediate letter sent to the Joint Secretary of Ministry of Defence Mayank Tiwari by the Joint Secretary ( Public) Ministry of Home Affairs it has asked the ministry of defence to make necessary arrangements for the state funeral with full military honours at Nigam Bodh Ghat where dead bodies of general masses are consigned to flames.
Usually funerals of former prime ministers are performed at dignified places which are then converted into memorials.
The Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge has addressed a one and a half page letter to prime minister Narendra Modi mentioning that apropos to our telephonic conversation today morning wherein I made a request which will take place tomorrow at his final resting place that would be a sacrosanct venue for memorial of one great son of India. This is in keeping with such tradition of having memorials of statesman and former Prime ministers at the very place of their funerals.
Mallikarjun Kharge said in his letter that Dr. Manmohan Singh holds a highly revered place in the psyche of the country and the people of this nation.
In the letter Kharge mentions that while Dr. Singh’s contributions and achievements are phenomenal I would like to dwell here on some of his very significant achievements adding that his erudition on economic and fiscal matters come from his vast experience as Governor of Reserve Bank of India, Chief Economic Advisory to GOI, and in various other significant capacities in several organisations. The respect and regard that the world leaders had for Dr. Manmohan Singh bears testimony to this fact wrote Mallikarjun Kharge in the letter written to PM Modi adding further that his wise counsel, leadership and contribution in mitigating global economic financial crisis is well acknowledged.
As I recall said Mallikarjun that Barack Obama during his tenure as President of United states mentioned Dr.Singh and remarked that whenever the Indian prime minister speaks, the whole world listens to him.
Praising Dr. Singh for his exceptional and outstanding contribution to tide over the economic crisis and taking INDIA forward speedily Mallikarjun Kharge wrote that when the nation was in the throes of grave economic crisis, it was Dr.Manmohan Singh as the Finance minister of India who took the nation out of economic crisis and also led it towards prosperity and stability.
As a result even today the nation traps the benefit of robust economic foundation built by him said the Congress chief.
Mallikarjun Kharge concluded – therefore in view of the foregoing I hope and trust that befitting the stature of the former prime minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, the above request to have his funeral at a place where Dr.Singh’s memorial can be built, is acceded wrote Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge to prime minister Narendra Modi.
