Mallikarjun Kharge as expected, wins as Congress president securing 7897 votes with Tharoor getting 1000 votes !
The veteran Congress leader and former LOP in Rajya, Sabha and Lok Sabha octogenarian Mallikarjun Kharge has won the Congress presidential election defeating his nearest and only rival Shashi Tharoor on Wednesday. Veteran Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge though not an official Congress candidate but silently backed by Gandhi family won the election securing more than seven thousand votes while his immediate rival Shashi Tharoor getting 1000 votes. Totalvotes polledwere 9385.
Though Kharge’s victory chances were almost confirmed as he was being considered as an undeclared official candidate of Congress and Gandhi family favorite but what mattered the most was his securing 7897 votes despite being a senior citizen compared to dynamic and intelligent UN diplomat turned three time MP from Thiruvananthapuram Shashi Tharoor who also got 1000 votes, probably the votes of young delegates, no less an outstanding achievement as compared to late Jitendra Prasada who had secured mere 95 votes against Sonia Gandhi twenty two years ago.
Meanwhile, losing candidate Dr. Shashi Tharoor congratulated the new president Mallikarjun Kharge on his resounding victory though patting his own back as well. Shashi Tharoor tweeted : It is a great honour anxa huge responsibility to be President of INC India n I wish Khargeji all success in that task. It was a privilege to have received the support of over a thousand colleagues n to carry the hopes n aspirations of so many well wishers of Congress across India tweeted Tharoor.
Tharoor also wrote a two page detailed letter to the CEC of Congress election complaining of certain irregularities like ballot boxes in UP not secured with white plastic tags and unauthorised persons influencing voters inside the polling booths etc. Meanwhile, former Congress president busy in his Bharat Jodo Yatra commented that Congress is the only party in the country that holds elections having its election Commission lauding Madhusudan Mistry its chairman as an impartial and experienced Congressman having worked with him closely. Nine term lawmaker from Karnataka, then several times MP Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, Leader of the party in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha and twice central minister Mallikarjun Kharge has fifty long years of experience in Congress politics always standing through the thick n thin of Gandhi family.
Bharat jodo yatra should be led by Mallikarjun Kharge as he now officially heads the party
Hopefully Lutyens media focuses their camaras on Mr Kharge from now onwards rather than Rahul n Priyanka Gandhi.
I advise Mr Kharge to grow his beard to get a bit of media coverage
Anyways thanking INC for nonstop entertainment n drama.
Congratulations!
