Shops are decorated with sesame seeds and jaggery and people are busy buying sesame seeds and jaggery to please Sun and Shani Dev. According to the Puranas on Makar Sankranti, it has been told that worshiping the Sun and Shani with sesame seeds on this day reduces the malefic effects of Saturn. Sun God is pleased and blesses the increase in food and wealth etc.
On the occasion of Makar Sankranti, a story has been mentioned in Shrimad Bhagavatam and Devi Purana in the context of worshiping the Sun God with sesame seeds. Due to the curse of son Shani and his second wife Chhaya, the Sun God got leprosy. But due to the efforts of son Yamraj, his leprosy was cured. But the Sun God got angry and burnt Saturn’s house Aquarius, turning it into ashes. This caused terrible trouble to Shani and his mother. Then Yamdev explained to Father Surya for the welfare of his stepmother and brother Shani, then Sun God reached Aquarius, the house of Shani and Chhaya. Everything was burnt there. Shani Dev had nothing but a sesame, so he worshiped the sun with a black sesame seed. Pleased with this, the Sun blessed that the second house of Saturn will be filled with wealth and grains etc. when I come to Capricorn. Due to the mole, Shani had regained his glory, so Shani Dev loves sesame. From this time, the rule of worshiping Sun and Saturn started on Makar Sankranti.
Pleased with the worship of Shani Dev, the Sun God blessed Shani that any person who worships the Sun with black sesame seeds on the day of Makar Sankranti, all kinds of sufferings will be removed. On this day, worshiping the sun with sesame seeds increases health happiness. The malefic effects of Saturn are removed. Those father-sons whose relationship is strained due to any reason; they must celebrate this Makar Sankranti. At the same time, those who have Aries, Leo and Sagittarius zodiac signs should also worship in the coming Saturn and Saturn’s Dhaiya in the same way as Capricorn, Aquarius, Pisces, Cancer, Scorpio are doing.
