Mahila Congress chief Jyoti Rautela badly thrashed by policemen including by sticks by male policemen at Rudrapur protest against rape and murder of a woman

Hundreds of volunteers of Uttarakhand Mahila Congress today protested at Rudrapur to register their strongest protest against the most obnoxious rape of a 32 year old nurse working in a private hospital few days ago and subsequent brutal murder with her face badly hit by heavy stones to disfigure it to conceal the identity of the victim. The police chief of Rudrapur called Kaptaan had in a statement while addressing the furious crowd had said that what a criminal has the intent for a women is not their responsibility.

This statement enraged everyone. The Mahila Congress chief Jyoti Rautela was during the protest literally beaten with sticks and tossed by the policemen in the air with some policeman seen pushing her with full force using the sticks.

This brutal attitude of the policemen during the demonstration maltreating a women chief of a state Mahila Congress has been strongly condemned by one and all including the Pahadi Swabhiman Sena and the chief of Uttarakhand Congress Karan Mahara. In a statement on his social media handle X Karan Mahara wrote : Seeing the attitude of the police and administration in the case of rape and murder of a nurse in Rudrapur, Mahila Congress President Jyoti Rautela protested along with the women Congress leaders. During this, they were brutally beaten up by the police administration. They were forcefully beaten up with sticks and hands by the male police personnel and were mistreated. This has once again brought the ugly face of the Uttarakhand police in front of the public. This makes it clear how the police provides security to women in Uttarakhand and how the police must have treated Ankita Bhandari and other daughters of Uttarakhand can be understood from today’s protest.

A Lansdowne Old Students Association Mber ( LOSA) Ashish while expressing his immense regret over this police behaviour said I personally feel very sorry for Jyoti and wish her speedy recovery.. The incident involving her being brutally assaulted by male policemen during a protest in Rudrapur is a shocking display of the Uttarakhand BJP government’s insensitivity towards the safety and dignity of women…. On top of it let’s not forget that it’s double engine government in the state…This reprehensible act not only highlights the government’s failure to protect women from violence but also demonstrates a complete disregard for human rights….Instead of addressing the grave concerns raised by the protestors about the rape and murder of a woman, the government chose to respond with brutality….This incident is a clear indication of how those in power are more focused on silencing dissent than ensuring justice and safety for women.

Moreover, the involvement of male policemen in physically assaulting a female leader is not only a violation of legal norms but also a blatant affront to the principles of gender equality and women’s rights….The state government must be held accountable for this gross misuse of power, and immediate action should be taken against those responsible for this heinous act.

In a state where women are already vulnerable to various forms of violence, this incident sends a dangerous message that even those who stand up for justice are not safe from the wrath of a government that seems to prioritize oppression over protection….The BJP government in Uttarakhand must answer for its actions & take immediate steps to restore faith in its commitment to women’s safety and justice….
