Mahara denounces Uttarakhand government, coming down heavily on it saying : It has failed on women security front as 872 rape cases registered in 2022

While the former Congress president Rahul Gandhi got relief from supreme Court today through its order staying his conviction on a criminal defamation case on Modi surname issue , in Uttarakhand the Congress party chief Karan Mahara came down heavily on the BJP led state government and chief minister for failing to accord relief and safety to women community with crime against women increasing manifold.

Addressing a press conference at the party office in Dehradun Congress state chief Karan Mahara said that the women community, the girls are the primary victim of lawlessness in the state highlighting the Ankita Bhandari case , blaming the state Police for showing apathy and negligence leading to her brutal murder including deliberately and pre strategically washing the evidences by arbitrarily demolishing the Vanantara resort.

Accusing the BJP and it’s government for hypocritically enacting a drama of zero tolerance on crime against women, Karan Mahara said that the crime graph in the state is touching all heights and the criminals have no terror for law of the land.

To substantiate his claim about increasing crime in Uttarakhand especially crime against women Congress state president Karan Mahara said that the MATRASHAKTI is not safe in Uttarakhand as according to an RTI, 872 women were raped in Uttarakhand in 2022 meaning that every day 3 rapes are being registered in the state of Uttarakhand.

Mahara told that there have been 229 incidents of rape in Udham Singh Nagar, 247 in Haridwar and 184 in Dehradun and if the least incidents of rape or molestations have happened anywhere, then it is the hilly region of Uttarakhand, Rudraprayag district, where only one case has been registered. While 103 cases have been registered in Nainital, 16 cases have been registered in Almora.

Mahara said that 17 cases have been registered in Pithoragarh, 7 in Champawat, 10 in Bageshwar, 15 in Tehri Garhwal, 13 in Uttarkashi, 9 in Chamoli, 20 in Pauri Garhwal.
