Exhibiting immense judicial prudence, transparency and wisdom – the Madhya Pradesh, Jabalpur High Court bench has taken suo moto cognizance of the MP minister Vijay Shah’s derogatory remarks yesterday and promptly directed the state’s Director General of Police to register the FIR against the erring minister for his highly derogatory statement against Colonel Sofiya Qureshi, the upright officer of Indian Defence Force, the video of which went viral in social media in which he without naming the officer connected her to Pak sponsored terrorists terming her as their sister. The justice termed the derogatory remarks by the minister as Gutter Language.
The DGP was directed to register the FIR latest by 6.00 PM and in case the orders were not complied to it may amount to contempt of court. Justice Sreedharan said in annoyance , I shall take no excuse.
Ensure that it is done otherwise be ready to face extreme embarrassment said the justice to advocate general Prashant Singh. The two judge bench comprised of justice Atul Sreedharan and justice Anuradha Shukla.
According to the latest news the Madhya Pradesh, Jabalpur High Court learned justice Atul Sreedharan observed that the Section 196 of BNS prohibits a person from to give speech on the basis of religion and is punishable.
When the counsel for the minister asked for leniency saying that the newspaper reports can’t be relied upon for authentication the justice said the video clippings will be taken into consideration now onwards.
It may be recalled that the video of the minister has gone viral in entire social media and even the chief of BJP J.P.Nadda and State BJP high command had reprimanded the minister for his derogatory remarks which brought BJP into a poor light socio politically.
Even the local MLA and the parliament member and minister Mrs Thakur were present in the meeting with hundreds of audience when Vijay Shah expressed his derogatory remarks saying that the way the terrorists have widowed our sisters by undressing the husbands before killing them , our PM of 56 inches chest has similarly sent their sister to Pakistan to avenge them and make them naked.
Though he hasn’t named any woman defence officer but the reference is being printed out on Colonel Sofia Qureshi.
Though there had been widespread condemnation of the statement of the BJP minister of MP including the Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge but the National Commission for Women chief too criticized the minister though she didn’t uttered his name. She wrote a lengthy post on X in HINDI : It is extremely unfortunate that such statements are being made by some responsible persons which are derogatory and unacceptable towards women.
This not only hurts the dignity of women in our society but is also an insult to the daughters of the nation who are playing an important role in the security of the country. Dear Colonel Sofia Qureshi is a proud daughter of this nation, a sister of all country loving Indians, who has served the country with courage and dedication. It is the responsibility of all of us to respect her hard work, dedication and leadership skills.
The entire country is proud of brave women like Colonel Sofia and such derogatory statements against her should be strongly condemned. When girls have once again proved their mettle by performing brilliantly in the latest CBSE results, it becomes even more important that we adopt a respectful attitude towards women.
To move towards a progressive nation, it is necessary that women move ahead and lead in every field. Everyone is urged to adopt a respectful language and attitude towards women in public life. When the controversy gained momentum and the minister Vijay Shah was strongly reprimanded by the party high command for his highly irresponsible and shameful comments he publicly sought apology for his remarks saying that he can’t insult sister Sofiya Qureshi even in dreams but after the statement laughed in camera.
Sounds shocking that a minister of the cabinet rank while praising the PM forgets to insult a defence woman officer of bravery and wisdom publicly.
Such a minister should not only be terminated from the ministry forthwith but also shown the door by expelling from the party for a x years atleast as they are not the wellwisher of their parties but liabilities whose only aim is to count to posts and positions by applying butter to the leadership though mere psycophancy.
