Legendary singer Narendra Singh Negi to be felicitated on 8 th April by President Ram Nath Kovind with prestigious, Sangeet Natak Academy Award in New Delhi

After a long wait, though despite repeated requests for honouring him with coveted Padmashree award, also assured by successive CMs of Uttarakhand but not done till date, finally the legendary melodious singer, lyricist, literateur and Garhwali poet Narendra Singh Negi is being felicitated with prestigious Sangeet Natak Academy Award in New Delhi for his outstanding contribution in the field of Art, culture and literature. This coveted award will be delivered to Negi by President of India Ram Nath Kovind on 8 th April in the national capital, said his son Kavilas Negi, who is also an actor as well as a singer of regional films, having acted in several popular Garhwali films and videos following his father’s footsteps. Rated as the biggest prestigious award for Art and literature in the country,Sangeet Natak Academy Award , about 44 outstanding personalities have been selected from all over India for this award hailing from Art and literature field. Negi is being honoured with this coveted award for 2018.There will also a performance of Narendra Singh Negi in the national capital thereafter said Kavilas. Kindly recall that Narendra Singh Negi had till now sung thousands of songs in Garhwali and Kumaoni dialects with hundreds of CDs of his mesmerising songs being sold among Uttarakhandies nationally n even abroad among the Uttarakhand inhabitants living abroad. His song “Nauchami Narena”, resulted in the then Uttarakhand government led by CM ND Tiwari lose at the hustings to BJP in 2007 earning accolades nationally and prestigious magazine India Today giving Negi good coverage. Apart from preserving and promoting the culture and dialects of Garhwal, Kumaun and Jaunsari and writing regional songs and literature Narendra Singh Negi has also made and sung songs on environment conservation, awareness against social evils and on problems of hills earning tremendous applaud and appreciation. He performed in thousands of programmes in various parts of the country and abroad and is a renowned poet as well. He carries behind a large endless following in Uttarakhand commanding tremendous respect among successive governments, leaders and people from music and cultural industry.
