Left parties host Housing Rights Public Movement Convention in the national capital
The demolition of JJ clusters by any government department should be stopped immediately and a new survey of all JJ clusters, slums and groups in Delhi should be conducted and the cut-off date for slum construction should be January 1, 2025 and the definition of a cluster should be a minimum of 20 slums.

This convention has started in the morning today. In Delhi, the three-engine government of BJP demolished the houses of the poor, laborers and slums. More than 3000 houses were demolished and more than 15000 people were rendered homeless. Similarly, before the G20 conference, 293205 people were evicted from their homes in 78 eviction campaigns under the beautification campaign.
This conference is being presided over by Professor Dinesh Varshney, Secretary CPI Delhi State Council and National Council Member, Anurag Saxena Secretary CPI(M) Delhi State, Shweta Raj, CPI(ML), RS Dagar Secretary RSP, Harishankar Forward Block and Santosh Kumar CGPI.
The main speakers were Professor Dinesh Varshney CPI, Shankarlal CPI National Council Member and Delhi State Secretariat Member, Com, Brinda Karat, Anurag Saxena, CPI(M), RS Dagar, Shatrujit Singh RSP, Birju Nayak CGPI, Harinarayan Pawar Forward Block, slum leader Kehar Singh, Sanjeev Kumar Rana, Akhtari from Dhobi Ghat slum, Advocate Anupradha, Tushar from Punjabi Bagh slum, RP Singh from Wazirpur, Ranjeet from Mehram Nagar slum, Prakash Paswan, etc.
The conference demanded that
1. The demolition of JJ clusters by any government department should be stopped immediately.
2. A new survey of all JJ clusters, slums and groups in Delhi should be conducted and the cut-off date for slum construction should be January 1, 2025 and the definition of a cluster should be a minimum of 20 slums.
3. As per the new survey, in situ rehabilitation or rehabilitation should be done within 5 km only.
4. Those living on the upper floors of slums should be made eligible for rehabilitation.
5. Fees should be charged from families only after rehabilitation and all public facilities should be provided.
6. The displaced people should be rehabilitated immediately. Compensation should be given.
7. All unauthorized colonies of Delhi should be regularized.
8. At least 50% of the new land proposed for construction under MPD 2041 should be allotted for housing of working class families.
9. Private sector participation should be ended in in situ rehabilitation or rehabilitation schemes. Central government funds should be invested in social housing schemes for the urban poor.
