Lakhwar villagers in Dehradun district, in tears, watch their ancient village submerging with golden n sweet memories in mind
After the old Tehri township was submerged in Bhagirathi and Alaknanda River with regard to the THDC project in late nineties the inhabitants of centuries old village, one out of six villages namely Lohari Gaon was submerged in the rising water level of Lakhwaad Vyasi Jal Vidyut Pariyojna ( Lakwaad Vyasi hydropower project) with the anguishing inhabitants of village, particularly aweful women, young n children watching the horrible drowning of their houses under the rising tides of the lake in Kalsi area of Dehradun district which will produce 120 Megawat of power. The Lakwad Vyasi hydropower project that resulted in submerging of six villages was inaugurated by prime minister Narendra Modi about seven years ago from now. Watching their village submerging, the tears of the shocked villagers did not stop remembering the nostalgic golden moments of their lives in the green pastures, agricultural fields and houses built by them years ago with immense precision and dreams of enlightened future in their hearts and minds about them as well as their children. The project costing Rs 1770 . 30 crores will produce 120 megawatt of power, meaning 330 million units of electricity. However, while six other villages are expected to be drowned in this hydropower project Lakhwar village has started submerging with anguished villagers feeling extremely bad for not giving them the last opportunity to celebrate their Bissu festival, with authorities giving them final ultimatum of just 48 hours to leave, leaving behind their green fields with left behind agricultural produce. There are reports of the 66 affected families of Lakhwadi village already given adequate financial compensation. According to the officer concerned Mr. Aggrawal – the work on the project was re- commenced in the year 2014 leading to the delay in the commissioning of this project earlier slated to be complete by June, 2021. About 2100 square kilometres of the area will be submerged in the proposed dam with 60 kilometres of glacial water.
It’s very nostalgic for Lakhwar villagers to celebrate their last BISSU (Bow & Arrow) festival as they are now getting to be submerged under Vyasi Vidyut Pariyojana.
