Karnataka DGP, IPS Praveen Sood is the new CBI chief !
India gets a new Director of India’s premier investigative agency – Central Bureau of Investigation on Sunday.
The government appointed IPS officer Praveen Sood as the new chief of CBI who was earlier Director General of Police of Karnataka.
The new chief of CBI has tremendous responsibility on his shoulders as the opposition parties had in the recent past blamed the centre for allegedly misusing the CBI and ED to target them.
IPS and former DGP Karnataka Praveen Sood’s term as CBI chief will be for two years. He replaces the outgoing chief Subodh Kumar Jaiswal whose term ends on 25 th May.
Having joined Indian Police Service in 1986 Praveen Sood started his career as ASP Mysore in 1989.
He served as SP of Bellary and Raichur prior to getting transferred to Bangalore as DCP ( law and order) later going on foreign assignment.
He was Commissioner of Police Bengaluru city from 2004 to 2007 and rated as a very very capable and strong officer having arrested Pakistani terrorists and tremendously maintained law and order giving immense relief to the people of the High tech city also known as an educational destination.
Belonging to a modest family from Himachal Pradesh Praveen Sood sought education in Delhi and after schooling cracked IIT Jee entrance getting admission in reputed IIT Delhi finally qualifying BTech with electrical engineering he opted for Civil Services and successfully sailed through at UPSE CSE in the very first attempt and got the Karnataka cadre. A, self made man his father being in clerical service in Delhi, Mr. Sood’s name was cleared by a high level committee comprising of chief justice of India D. Y. Chandrachud, prime minister Narendra Modi and leader of opposition from Congress Mr. A. R. Chowdhary.
