Kanwar Yatra in Uttarakhand is the hottest topic during this hottest summer with the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami meeting prime minister Narendra Modi and union home Amit Shah and deliberating on this issue more than anything else probably expressing his reservation on holding this Yatra to start from July 25, especially after the chief minister of Uttara Pradesh Yogi Adityanath formally deciding to allow it and also conversing with the former, asking to give permission forthwith. This has put the Uttarakhand CM on dilemma compelling him to meet the prime minister, home minister and national BJP chief J.P. Nadda in Delhi. The cloud of uncertainty already prevails over Uttarakhand on conduction of Chardham Yatras as well as KAANWAD YATRA on which the Uttarakhand high court has also issued orders prohibiting them, compelling the state government to approach the supreme court against the high court directives. While confirming that he had brought these issues to the notice of prime minister and the home minister and deliberated in detail, he has also directed his senior officials to to speak to the UP, MP, Haryana,Delhi and HP officials dealing with the Kanwad Yatra issue to arrive at the final decision before giving the decision of the state government. However, during the previous CM’s tenure Tirath Singh Rawat had already issued directives not to hold the KAANWAD YATRA particularly after the state suffered badly invite of the tremendous surge in Covid 19 cases followed by the fake testing scam. During April not only has the state witnessed about 1.3 lakhs Covid contractions but its pandemic figures also crossed enormous limits with thousands of fatalities compounded with deadly Covid entering villages in the interiors creating havoc. Meanwhile, the pandemic experts like Anoop Nautiyal of Social Development of communities Foundation has outrightly demanding stop to Kanwad Yatra as during the last season around 1 crore thirty lakh or more times of rubbish that also included plastic waste was collected from Uttarakhand Haridwar n other locations apart from the collossal rush this Yatra holds in which about two to four crores people participate. The consequences of this Yatra if allowed would be five times more than Covid infections said Nautiyal as the footfalls during the previous Yatra had been from two to four crores. He catagorically added that the Kanwar Yatra pilgrimage could be five time more than the super spreader of pandemic during Mahakumbh at Haridwar.
