The writer has seen this video in a Facebook post and found it interesting to publish it hear. The video posted is going viral in social media with several people following one Kamal Singh holding a cub of a leopard in his lap and coming towards his home. His name is reportedly Kamal Singh and it is being said that one of the leopards took away his goat and in retaliation Kamal Singh searched for the leopard in revenge and found his cub bringing it back to home. Thousands of people have reportedly watched the said video but are surprised and shocked over the bravery of Kamal Singh of Chamoli district of Garhwal who not worried of retaliation from the leopard. It is usually said that the dreaded carnivores are always near their cubs and nobody would ever dare to clandestinely steal them as did by Kamal Singh. However, the picture speaks for itself and corroborate the fact of the matter. In Uttarakhand’s Garhwal and Kumaon divisions incidents of maneater attacks have been in the rise with news about human killings by these carnivores appearing in newspapers on every alternate days. Road accidents and maneater invasion and subsequent human kills have become order of the day in Uttarakhand. It is not that all leopards or tigers are maneaters in Uttarakhand but due to large scale so called environmentally unfriendly development and encroachment in forests etc including sound pollution the lives of the wild animals in in absolute danger. In view of the rampant cutting of forests and dearth of food the carnivores are emerging out of jungles and arriving near human habitats making them their easy prey. There were times when people lived in villages and the lives were hectic in the interiors, unfortunately today their is mass exodus of village population to cities, towns n metropolises in search of joy avenues and good education for their children. Subsequently no domestic pets like cows, buffaloes, sheeps, goats and even dogs who earlier used to be their easy food. Lack of food leads to these carnivores coming near human habitats and even taking shelter in vacant villages making human they prey and breeding there itself, increasing their population by leaps and bounds.
