Jolt to Congress, Sunil Jakhar, Punjab leader n three term MLA joins BJP!
The Congress party suffered a jolt again when one of its important leader of Punjab, n lawmaker – Sunil Jakhar, whose father was one of the important pillars of Congress Balram Jakhar, former speaker of Lok Sabha and union agriculture minister during Congress regime joined BJP today in New Delhi. The national president of the saffron party J. P Nadda welcomed the veteran Punjab Congress leader in BJP at the Rouse Avenue, Delhi on Thursday. Joining the saffron party Sunil Jakhar badly annoyed and frustrated after being meted out the discriminatory treatment being a non Sikh leader by Congress thanked the PM Narendra Modi, union home minister Amit Shah n BJP leaders for accepting him in the party saying that he is joining BJP after his three generation’s incessant contribution to Congress party for more than five decades. The Punjab Congress leader said that he left Congress not because of any personal fight or differences but because it has now deviated from principles it once stood for. The former Punjab chief minister who had also joined BJP after being defeated in Punjab elections welcomed the decision of Sunil Jakhar to join the saffron party saying that he is a strong and effective leader of Punjab who had always been betrayed by the Congress leaders n high command. According to Captain Amrinder Singh, after he was dislodged as CM, Sunil Jakhar had the support of maximum Congress MLAs but the then party leader Ambika Soni snatched his chance of becoming CM of Punjab because he was a non Sikh. Captain Singh said that he should have been in BJP earlier but his present decision is highly laudable. Lauding the decision of Sunil Jakhar joining BJP, JP Nadda said he had been a towerinv leader of Congress party in Punjab and held various important positions. His joining BJP will strengthen the party in Punjab in the new future. The former Congress leader also met the Union home minister Amit Shah. It may be recalled that Sunil Jakhar was not in good terms with the Congress party as well as central leadership and had posted an objectionable post bidding good bye to Congress. He was issued a show cause notice by the party’s disciplinary action committee. He was not in good political terms with the former Punjab CM Charanjit Singh Channi as well. Feeling strangulated psychologically in Congress he joined BJP in a huff. Today in BJP, Sunil Jakhar had ridiculed former Punjab CM Amrinder Singh his detractor while in Congress when the latter met Amit Shah, ampunting to his joining BJP. He had then quoted a “Sher”, of eminent urdu poet Bashir Badr in his tweet as below : KUCH TO MAZBURIYAN RAHI HONGI, YUN KOI BEWAFA NAHI HOTA – BASHIR BADR
Sunil Jakhar son of late Balram Jakhar, former speaker Lok Sabha and union minister had been the leader of opposition in Punjab Assembly from 2012 to 2017 and lawmaker from Abohar legislative constituency, Punjab, thrice . He was also the President of Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee.
