The Congress party has in strongest possible terms criticized the BJP led NDA government for its foreign secretary and Chinese Ambassador to India cutting cake to commemorate the 75 th anniversary of diplomatic relations between India and China. In a statement issued in New Delhi the senior Congress leader and incharge of the AICC foreign affairs department, Lok Sabha MP Jairam Ramesh said yesterday , the foreign secretary Vikram Misri and Chinese Ambassador Xu Fiehong jointly celebrated the 75 years of Indi China friendship by cutting the cake despite surrendering over 2000 square kilometres of land in Ladakh in the guise of disengagement.
Congress senior leader and former union minister Jairam Ramesh also has objections to the president Draupadi Murmu and prime minister Narendra Modi exchanging greetings with their respective counterparts President Xi Jingping and premier Li Qiang saying that there is consistency in prime minister’s pusillanimous approach to China.
It started with the infamous public clean chit he gave to China , when he declared ” Na Koi Hamaari Sena Mein Ghus Aaya Hai na Hi Koi Ghusa Hua Hai on live television only four days ago after twenty of our valiant soldiers made their supreme sacrifice in Haldwani on 15 June 2O20 said Jairam Ramesh.
Expressing his disenchantment Jairam Ramesh said it continues today in the Modi government ‘s failure to safeguard our sovereignty while pursuing normalisation with China.
Ramesh said that despite four months having elapsed after the signing of the agreement of 21 October 2024 , the Indian government has gained to assuage widespread concerns that the agreement represents a major setback to India’s territorial integrity and national interest.
Another Congress leader and vociferous spokesman Pawan Khera too came down heavily on the BJP led NDA government for cutting the cake with the Chinese Ambassador and celebrating the 75 years of Indo China friendship putting several questions to PM Narendra Modi writing on X as below :

along with the Chinese ambassador to India Xu Feihong, cut a cake to mark the 75th anniversary of diplomatic ties between India and China.
President Murmu and PM Modi exchanged messages with their counterparts, Xi Jinping and Li Qiang respectively. He questioned :
▪️Has the Indian territory – illegally occupied by PLA – been vacated?
▪️Has the status quo ante (as in April 2020) with regard to patrolling points, patrolling norms, buffer zones and grazing grounds been restored?
▪️Have the de-escalation, de-mobilisation and dismantling of infrastructure created by China on the LAC been done to our satisfaction levels?

▪️Has India accepted the occupation as the new normal?
