There are rumours that the state Congress president will be changed in the near future and perhaps the incumbent president Karan Mahra has realised that his days are numbered. The recent statement of the betenoire of Karan Mahara, state Congress chief , Pritam Singh, the eight term MLA from Chakrata that the Congress high command should immediately clarify its position on the state leadership as 2027 is coming near. He emphatically said that lot of efforts need to be carried on for the 2027 elections and therefore any confusion about the state Congress leadership should be cleared at the earliest. This statement of the former state president and ex leader of the opposition Pritam Singh holds tremendous significance and sheds light on the possibility of the change of leadership in the state. Moreover, the recent bad performance by the Congress party in the civic elections the Congress has fared extremely negatively losing ten seats to BJP out of eleven in the mayoral elections. However, the Congress chief Karan Mahara claims to have won in two by elections in Kedarnath and Mangalore assembly constituencies. He further said that I have worked hard to bring the Congress to such a cohesive position that Congress has today come to be in a position to give a tough fight to its opponent obviously BJP. This is the only reason that every one ( senior leaders) in the party want to become the state Congress chief. This is good but still I am ready to abide by any decision the high command thinks of taking in the near future said Uttarakhand Congress chief Karan Mahara. Meanwhile, Karan Mahara has recently issued a circular forbidding all the state senior leaders, office bearers, district chiefs, block presidents , elected representatives etc not to speak to the media criticizing the party . If at all they want to speak to media, print and electronics they should respond to the opposition parties’ criticism of Congress but should not criticize the party. He said that several senior party leaders of Congress are these days speaking to media against the party . This should not be repeated and they should amend themselves said Mahara. This letter itself indicates that the incumbent state president of Congress Mahara is insecure and may have felt about the possibility of the change of leadership in Uttarakhand in the near future say political analysts. While , rumours are being foisted about the possible change in Congress leadership in Uttarakhand, on the other hand there is literally an explosion in Congress party when former Uttarakhand CM n member CWC Harish Rawat has in one of his posts in FB lauded the leadership of both prime minister Narendra Modi and union Home minister Amit Shah terming them as tremendously strong propagandists of BJP who have literally crushed the propaganda of opposition leaders. After winning Delhi they are busy to win Bihar, this is today’s BJP wrote Rawat. While some Congress leaders of Uttarakhand are criticizing Rawat for demoralising the morale of Congress leaders and workers he is also probably making grounds to join BJP reveal unconfirmed sources.
