International Virtual Symposium on “The Universal Message of Bhagavān Buddha” Held at Jawaharlal Nehru University

On the auspicious occasion of Buddha Jayanti, the School of Sanskrit and Indic Studies at Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, Bharat, organized an International Virtual Symposium titled “The Universal Message of Bhagavān Buddha” on 27th May, 2024. The symposium aimed to explore the timeless teachings of Lord Buddha and their relevance in the contemporary world.

The esteemed Chief Guest, Shri Abhijit Halder, Director General of the International Buddhist Confederation (IBC), graced the event with his presence. Prof. C. Upendra Rao, senior most professor, School of Sanskrit and Indic Studies, JNU, gave detailed concept of the international symposium and chaired the sessions. Prof. Brajesh Pandey, Dean couldn’t attend the symposium.

The symposium featured an illustrious lineup of speakers from diverse backgrounds, including Padma Shri Dr. Chirapat Prapandavidya from Shilpakorn University, Bangkok, Thailand, and Prof. Dharmika Pranidhi, Vice Rector of Nalanda Buddhist College, Jakarta, Indonesia.

Distinguished guests included Dr. Sergey Pakhomov, Associate Professor at the Institute of Philosophy, Russia. Ven. Lama Chosphel Zotpa, Deputy Secretary General of IBC, India couldn’t attend. Prof. Dr. Suvin Ruksat, President of the Buddhist Studies Department at Mahamakut Buddhist University, Thailand, shared his thoughtful insights.

The symposium provided a platform for profound discussions on various aspects of Buddhist philosophy and its impact on global peace and harmony. Prajna paramita sutta was by Bhikkhu Priyadarshi while Dr. Krishna Mohan Pandey welcomed the esteemed participants.

In his vote of thanks, Dr. Mauhar Singh Meena expressed gratitude to all the dignitaries, speakers, and attendees for their valuable contributions, active participation and for attending this enlightening program, which aimed to propagate the universal message of compassion, wisdom, and enlightenment preached by Bhagavān Buddha.

The symposium was organised by Prof. C. Upendra Rao, JNU. It was highly successful with the participation of scholars and COP and DOP students of Pali at JNU.
