Infuriated three term MLA n former minister Shurveer Singh Sajwan to contest as independent from Rishikesh after being denied ticket
While there are tremendous hostilities by the candidates of both the parties viz BJP and Congress contesting independently posing direct threat to their respective candidates on various seats, the sitting BJP MLA from Rudrupur, Rajkumar Thukral and former minister and MLA from Rishikesh, considered to be a Congress heavy weight among old horses, Shurvir Singh Sajwan is contesting as an independent candidate from Rishikesh after being kept out of fray by Congress high command, cutting his ticket. It is a clear cut conspiracy against a senior leader who had been with the party during its thick and thin said Sajwan supporters.
A former three term MLA from Tehri, Devprayag and Rishikesh in 1985 to 1989 ( Devprayag), 1993 to 1996 from Tehri, Garhwal, and 2002 to 2007 from Rishikesh, Shurvir Singh Sajwan was cabinet minister of Irrigation , minor irrigation and flood control of Uttarakhand under the then CM Narain Dutt Tiwari’s chief ministership.
The Congress has given the Rishikesh ticket to Jayendra Chand Ramola, a new comer whereas the three claimants Shurvir Singh Sajwan, former Uttarakhand Youth Congress chief Kharola and Vijay Saraswat were shown the door, annoying all the three who were quite senior and experienced to the present candidate Ramola, with Shurvir Singh Sajwan being the seniormost leader of Uttarakhand Congress having quite a good say in Rishikesh and Garhwal among Congress workers and leaders.
The Bhartiya Janata party has given ticket to its sitting MLA, speaker of Uttarakhand Vidhan Sabha Prem Chand Aggrawal, a seasoned leader with tremendous grip on his electorates.
Political analysts say that by sidelining veteran Congress leader and former lawmaker from Rishikesh Shurvir Singh Sajwan, the party has not only given a cakewalk to BJP candidate speaker Uttarakhand Assembly Prem Agarwal, demoralising the Congress workers and local leaders of Rishikesh but has also compelled the workers of all the three aspirants of Congress ticket ferociously campaigning for the independent candidate Shoorvir Singh Sajwan.
