India to get 12 crores vaccine jabs in June with 90 to 100 crore jabs to be supplied by SII Pune as assured to HM Amit Shah

After lot of confusion and controversy generated after the shortage and finishing of Covid 19 vaccines’ quota in several states of the country, especially the pressure mounted by the Aam Admi chief n Delhi CM Arvind Kejrival and his deputy Manish Sisodia demanding from the centre to grant permission to other vaccine manufacturers as well to fulfil the shortage of vaccines in the country, there have been finally the news about India getting about twelve crores vaccine jabs with the Covishield manufacturer Serum Institute of India also writing to union home minister announcing supply of about one hundred crore doses in the month of June including declaration by the union health ministry of total supply of twelve crore vaccines.

This announcement will definitely give a huge relief to countrymen especially those above 45 yrs and with comorbidities anxiously n curiously waiting for their second innoculation that has been now fixed after three months n the children as well. A large number of youths n middle aged from 18 to 45 years have also complained of being left out in the country with lot of chaos around.

According to the latest authentic figures available in India, till now about 168,613, 371 people have been vaccinated with at least single dose of Covaxin, Astrazeneca ( Covishield of SII) or Sputnik V whereas 44,540, 758 persons have been fully innoculated with both the jabs of Covishield, Covaxin or Sputnik V.

This amounts to about 12 percent population having taken the first jab while three percent of the population injected with both the doses which is considered to be a minuscule percentage keeping in view the vast population of India viz more than 135 crores.

There had been tremendous pressure on the union government, prime minister and the union health minister by various state governments especially those being ruled by the opposition parties like Rajasthan, West Bengal, Chattisgarh, Jharkhand etc accusing the BJP led government of step motherly treatment, supplying less number of vaccines as compared to the states ruled by them.

The Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejrival n his deputy Manish Sisodia had been especially very vocal in this regarding airing their opposition through virtual press conferences saying that all their vaccination centres have been closed due to non availability of vaccines with those wanting to have the second jab left out in large numbers, especially senior citizens n those with comorbidities etc.

The government of Rajasthan too had their grudge against the union govt apart from govt of Chattisgarh and Jharkhand, ruled by Congress and Jharkhand Mukti Morcha.

According to the announcement of the union health ministry nearly 120 million ( 12 crore) anti Covid vaccine doses will be available in the month of June for vaccination at the pan India level, with Serum Institute of India, Pune and Bharat Biotech, Hyderabad, busy round the clock manufacturing the vaccines expeditiously, enhancing the production from 85 to 80 million doses ( earlier) to 110 to 220 million doses to be made available next month. It is believed that 80 percent of the vaccination done till yet was allegedly of Covishield vaccine n rest Covaxin, with Sputnik V.

Out of the total lot of 110 to 130 million doses fifty to sixty percent of it viz about 7 crore doses will be supplied to various states and union territories where as the rest through the central government channel.

According to union health ministry, about 12 million doses of both the vaccines will be available to countrymen under the under the national Covid 19 national vaccination programme.

However, in a letter to the union home minister Amit Shah, the SII Pune while appreciating his fullest support and cooperation said that out of the total 120 million jabs of Covishield, SII will cater to 90 to 100 million doses in June as its production is in full swing on 24×7 basis.

Meanwhile the Delhi deputy CM Manish Sisodia has said that the Delhi government will not be able to get its vaccine quota before June fixed for 550 thousand jabs for 18 to 45 age group despite repeated reminders.

Saying that this quota is quite little Manish Sisodia complained that the central government is not giving us the jabs in time.

He added : We need 1.84 crore jabs to fully innoculated Delhi which includes 92 lakh major population between 18 to 45 years of age. He complained that so far the Delhi government has merely received 4.5 lakh doses in April and 3.66 doses in May. He was addressing the virtual press conference on Friday.

Kindly recall that as per the studies conducted by Public Health England a single jab of Covishield vaccine provides 33 percent of immunity, meaning nearly 66 percent immunity when innoculated with two sizes whereas the Oxford vaccine Pfizer has the cumulative immunity of 88 percent quite above Astrazeneca ( Covishield) n now the duration of second dose of Covishield has been deferred to 12 weeks, earlier being thirty to 45 days says a report in the Sunday column of senior journo Karan Thapar in “Sunday Sentiments” published every week.
