Indian hockey team wins bronze after 41 long years. President and PM congratulate, terming it a historic triumph

The Indian Hockey team broke it’s own record of 41 years after 1980 Moscow Olympics by winning the Bronze medal in Tokyo Olympics, unbelievably beating Germany by 5-4 goals on Thursday sending cheers all around. The victory was sealed by India against Germany when India’s dashing Simranjeet Singh scored two goals for the country at the OI Hocky stadium at Tokyo alongwith other players viz Hardik Singh, Harman Preet Singh and Rupinder pal Singh also scoring three goals.

This significant 5-4 goals victory of Indian hockey team against Germany in Olympics has been realised after the protracted wait of 41 years, finally bringing all round rejoice, especially when the Indan Women Hockey team too has entered the semifinals after defeating Australia by 1-0. Now it will play against Britain in the semifinals for Bronze medal on Friday. Meanwhile President Ram Nath Kovind while terming the Indian Hockey team’s victory as historic tweeted : Congratulations to our Men’s Hockey team for winning an Olympic medal in hockey after 41 years. The team showed exceptional skills, resilience and determination to win. This history victory will start new era in hockey and will inspire youths to take up.

Prime minister Narendra Modi while heartily congratulating the Indian Hockey team for this wonderful triumph termed it as a historic day that will be etched in the memory of every Indian. He tweeted : Historic, a day that will be etched in the memory of every Indian. Congratulations to our Men’s Hockey Team for bringing home the Bronze. With this feat, they have captured the imagination of the entire nation, especially our youth. India is proud of our hockey team tweeted Prime minister Modi.

Former Congress president Rahul Gandhi too congratulated the India Hockey team on its historic win terming it a well deserved victory tweeting : Congratulations to the Indian Men’s, Hockey team. India has so far won four medals in Tokyo Olympics one each in weight lifting, boxing, badminton and hockey. One silver and three bronze medals in all. Looking forward to have more.

Kindly recall that this is India’s first Olympic medal in hockey since they won the gold medal in the 1980 Olympics in Moscow. It was a thrilling victory for India indeed.
