In view of the increasing population, pressure of tourism and migration, public transport need to be improved in Dehradun, Haridwar and other busy townships of Ukhand

There were umpteen assurances and announcements in the past to gain political mileage about various achievements by the successive governments especially the saffron party’s ruling political dispensation making tall claims about metro train coming in Dehradun and from Dehradun to Haridwar and Rishikesh the main spiritual and religious townships which witness thousands of Kaanwadiyas every year thronging Uttarakhand including pilgrims and tourists coming here from different parts of the country and the world.

Not only they visit pious Ganges but also visit four spiritual and religious destinations Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotri and Yamunotri including Hemkunt Sahib and Dev Prayag, a main confluence point of two rivers Alaknanda and Bhaghirathi to give birth to pious GANGES.

Uttarakhand after attaining separate Statehood twenty three years ago now needs a complete overhaul in environment friendly developmental activities.

We have heard lot about Dehradun to be converted into a Smart City but during monsoon and even slightest of the rains the roads and streets in the state capital get over flooded with buses, cars n other vehicles getting fully drowned and the lives of people of Dehradun in doldrums. Even the drains of the state capital hVe been inhabited by new residential buildings coming up creating more congestion and density in population.

Though undoubtedly Uttarakhand is a seismic Zone coming under Zone 5 prone to tectonic upheavals including natural calamities of various kinds – the improvisation and introduction of new and latest hi tech transport system, environment friendly development of Uttarakhand cities should be our first and foremost priority with rapid transport facilities and metro train coming in at the earliest to ease the increasing crowds and adequately cope with the latest challenges.

The cities and towns of Uttarakhand particularly Dehradun and pilgrimage township Haridwar including Udham Singh Nagar etc need everything that will help provide improvised transport facilities to millions of residents and pilgrims including tourists to ease the situation and for that the public transport is the biggest priority of Uttarakhand.

According to the founder of SDC and renowned social and environmental activist Anoop Nautiyal : In Uttarakhand for the last 6 years tall claims are being made about likely fulfilment of the scarcity of Metro, Air Taxi, LRT, Ropeway, Neo Metro, Pod etc , but nothing had been done as announced earlier making tall claims. In the coming times population, tourism, mass exodus to cities will enhance pressure of the state. In view of this lot of work need to be done to provide public transport tweeted Anoop Nautiyal. The newspaper clipping below seems to be of the early years which clearly writes about metro running between Dehradun and Haridwar. Similarly there is another news about a train to run between Jwalapur Jatwada to Rishikesh but till date nothing has been done, though lot if work has been done with regard to a railway line between Rishikesh to Karnaprayag, the eighty percent of which is underground through tunnels, making our mountains hollow which are already prone to tectonic upheavals sending warning signals as per the assumption of our geologists etc. If we go through the past figures tentatively about forty lakh pilgrims and tourists have visited four religious, spiritual destinations last year including Hemkunt Sahib which unambiguously reveals that in the years to come this will increase further putting tremendous pressure on the Himalayan state adding to pollution as well disturbing the flora and fauna.
