Hundreds of Uttarakhand inhabitants of Delhi and NCR protested at Jantar Mantar to demand GAIRSAIN as permanent capital of Uttarakhand

At Jantar Mantar today hundreds of inhabitants living in the national capital territory of Delhi and NCR protested to demand ” Gairsain” at Bhararisain , as parmament capital, equidistant from Kumaon and Garhwal region, the protracted issue, marked as the most priority subject after Uttarakhand achieved separate statehood dissociating itself from Uttar Pradesh.
Several protests demonstrations have earlier been held by various socio political organisations of Uttarakhand and those who fought for the separate state including Uttarakhand Kranti Dal, the first regional political party whose manifesto carried this demand on point one thus being at the forefront with Baba Mohan Singh sacrificing himself after he underwent indefinite fast unto death in favour of this demand.
Today’s one day protest demonstrations cum Dharna was organised by ” STHAYEE RAJDHANI GAIRSAIN SAMITEE” founded recently in Delhi.
The protestors started collecting at the Jantar Mantar venue since Sunday morning and by afternoon they swelled in numbers.
The protestors were raising slogans demanding Gairsain as their permanent capital denouncing the ruling party government for not fulfilling their protracted demand despite several protest demonstrations, padyatras, Dharnas and arrests in the past including sacrifice by Baba Mohan Singh who underwent more than hundred days strike succumbing to his health complications for the cause.
A senior IAS PCS retired from Uttarakhand Vinod Raturi was the chief organiser of this rally who while addressing the crowd said that the demand for Gairsain Bhararisain as the permanent capital is the need of the hour. This is not only a question related to the identity of Uttarakhand but also for the future of the coming generations.” He appealed to the inhabitants of Uttarakhand that if they really need a progressive Uttarakhand developed at the grassroots they should tighten their belts and come forward for a relentless struggle for making GAIRSAIN the permanent capital of Uttarakhand.
Kamal Dhyani who moderated the event appealed to all the organizations and sections of the society to come together and take this mass movement forward saying that Gairsain as Permanent Capital of Uttarakhand is our first and foremost demand and we should unitedly come forward to make this dream come true.
In his address Devendra Khatri said: “When the statehood agitators demanded Uttarakhand, the primary objective was to establish the capital in the hills to stop migration and bring development to every village but unfortunately even after the lapse of 25 protracted years this genuine demand is still a dream.
He stated that the ancient Himalayan empire extended from the Hindukush to Manipur and from Khandavaprastha (present-day Meerut) to Tibet. During that period, the capital was always located in the mountainous regions, particularly Kartikeyapur (present-day Joshimath).
All the speakers said that from a geographical perspective, Gairsain is equidistant from the gateways of entire Uttarakhand – Haldwani, Ramnagar, Haridwar and Kotdwar – and hence is the most balanced place for the entire state.
In addition to this, on economic aspects, the speakers asserted that making Gairsain the capital will utilize local resources, increase employment and infuse new life into the rural economy especially at the decentralised levels doing justice to those living at the grass roots and the core voters for which Uttarakhand was achieved after 43 precious sacrifices and millions of people struggling hard, going behind jails and losing the peace of their families and careers.
Other speakers who addressed the gathering were: Asharam Kumri, Jaspal Raot, Sushil Kandwal, Ramesh Thapliyal, Jagdish Chandra, Bhuvan Chandra, Subhash Raturi, Sunil Jadli, Mahavir Farswan, Hemlata Raturi, Rakesh Negi, Vipin Raturi, J.S. Gusain, Rekha Bhatt, Mayaram Bahuguna and Devendra Raturi.
The participants present in the meeting, who had come from different areas of Delhi-NCR, unanimously demanded that the Prime Minister and the Chief Minister should not delay in taking this historic decision and should immediately declare Gairsain as the permanent capital failing which they will be compelled to resort to direct action , the consequences of which shall be of the government said the leaders of this protest meeting.
