Hundreds of activists hold peaceful candle march at DWARKA after Supreme Court admits the three review petitions demanding justice for Nirbhaya of Najafgarh !

Hundreds of activists, people from Qutub Vihar, Nazafgarh the residence of Nirbhaya of Nazafgarh, good number of women, men, social workers n journalists today participated in a candle march organised by the parents of Nirbhaya of Najafgarh and Nirbhaya of Vasant Vihar and “Sarv Samaj”, at Nirbhaya Chowk near Akshardham Apartment in Sector 19 DWARKA holding play cards in their hands raising slogans demanding justice for KIRAN NEGI and death to the culprits who had been acquitted by the Supreme Court of India on 8 November 2022.

Raising slogans viz. KIRAN HUM SHARMINDA HAIN THERE KATIL JINDA HAIN, ( KIRAN WE ARE ASHAMED AS YOUR ASSASSIN’S ARE ALIVE), SUPREME COURT KE NIRNAY KO VAPAS LO, VAPAS LO, ( TAKE BACK THE SUPRE COURT VERDICT, ) AND DEATH TO THE RAPISTS N MURDERERS , ETC.

However, the parents of Late KIRAN NEGI and the Nirbhaya of Vasant Vihar who led the protest candle march in DWARKA expressed their happiness and satisfaction after the apex court admitted the three review petitions filed in Supreme Court against the acquittal of the three convicts in Nirbhaya of Najafgarh’s obnoxious gang rape and brutal murder on 7 th February 2012.

The candle marchers raising slogans and holding play cards in their hands marched from Nirbhaya Chowk and after covering two kilometres distance registering their protest and expressing solidarity with the traumatised parents of late KIRAN NEGI in their decade long struggle assured them of their total support and allegiance in their relentless struggle to seek justice for their daughter who is now the daughter of entire nation.

It may be recalled that the 19 year old Nirbhaya of Najafgarh was abducted from Najafgarh while she was returning back home along with her friends on February 9, 2012 by three culprits who took her to Rodhai village periphery in Haryana and brutally killed her after obnoxious gang rape inflicting 21 injuries on her body including sprinkling acid in her eyes, broken bottle in private parts and inserting screw driver in her ears . This was the rarest of the rare crime ever perpetrated on a 19 year old innocent girl who was the only member of the poor family. The three culprits were caught by the Delhi police after an FIR was lodged in Chawla police station.

The police didn’t cooperated initially but after protest demonstration by the locals, the FIR was lodged and criminals caught. After incessant protest demonstrations at Jantar Mantar and DWARKA Court premises including candle marches – the issue caught the attention of the media.

Anita NEGI Gupta an NGO Sanjeevani’s leader was the force behind the protests who not only encouraged late KIRAN Negi’s parents but also mobilised the local populace particularly women to raise their voice against this injustice. Kitan was brutally killed after obnoxious gang rape six months before the Nirbhaya of Vasant Vihar running bus that elicited the nationwide outrage and her four culprits brought to gallows.

Unfortunately Anita Negi Gupta, a brave fighter is also not with us today who left this universe during Covid times.

The three culprits were awarded capital punishment by the DWARKA, Sessions Court in 2014 and sentence upheld a year after when the culprits appealed in Delhi High Court for relief.

The culprits finally went to supreme Court to appeal against the death sentence. After eight years of incessant struggle and pursuance of the case in the apex Court by the poor parents of Nirbhaya of Najafgarh their confidence and courage finally withered down on 8 th November 2022 when the three judge bench of Supreme Court led by the former CJI acquitted all the three convicts finding the investigation extremely patchy blaming the Delhi Police for this lakadaisical investigations.

Not only were the parents of KIRAN NEGI badly discouraged but the entire Uttarakhand community was in pain including people of cross section of the society against this judgement.

A new chapter of candle marches and protest demonstrations commenced in Delhi n NCR again demanding justice for late KIRAN Negi.

Meetings were organised in Garhwal Bhawan amd a cumulative unanimous decision was taken to file a review petition in Supreme Court after preparing the dead legal case again.

A team of lawyers under the leadership of senior advocate Sandeep Sharma worked on the case tirelessly and filed the writ petition in the apex Court followed by the Delhi Police which is the direct stake holder in the case. Another social organisation in Delhi filed a third writ petition.

The anguished parents of late KIRAN NEGI got a huge relief on 7 n 8 th of February when the chief justice of India D. Y. Chandrachud admitted all the three writ petitions and assured of hearing this important case in open Court room.

What is important to note here is that the Solicitor general Tushar Mehta while appearing on behalf of Delhi Police has on the first day of hearing in front of chief justice D. Y Chandrachud has revealed the bad deeds of one of the culprits out of three namely Vinod who had again murdered an Auto driver on 26 th January in DWARKA after hiring his three Wheeler from Chanakyapuri posing as a customer. The culprit along with his another associate Pawan tried to loot the driver who resisted and Vinod slashed his throat leading to the auto driver’s brutal death. Vinod was acquitted on 8 th November , 2022 with two other convicts but committed another murder.
