HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION WRITES TO THE CM UTTARAKHAND IN KESHAV THALWAL’S MATTER

It seems that the controversy regarding the alleged extreme harrasment of a young You tuber and social activist Keshav Thalwal by the police who hails from a poor family is gaining tremendous momentum.
He had accused a police officer for allegedly forcing him to drink unrine, beaten and abused repeatedly and conspiratorially involved in a fake case six months ago.
When he repeatedly sought justice from various senior officers including the DGP Uttarakhand he was arrested and put behind bars.
However , he is now out on bail.
His case was tremendously highlighted in print and electronics media including social media with several of his videos going viral inviting people’s attention at the pan India level.
Now, according to the latest news the World Human Rights Protection Commission too has come to his rescue. The commission has while adopting a very serious and stringent view of this matter has sent a letter to Uttarakhand chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami.
According to a letter sent to the Commission, Keshav Thalwal, son of the late Shri Bolam Singh Thalwal, a resident of Pratapnagar Tehsil (Village-Kuran) in Tehri Garhwal, has made serious allegations against certain officers and employees of the police department. He alleges that he has been subjected to inhumane treatment and harassment by the police.
The Commission has taken note of the prominent coverage of this matter on social media and news channels, adversely affecting the image of the state and the police department not only in Uttarakhand but also nationally and abroad.
The demands made in the letter sent to the Chief Minister after the Commission’s meeting held in Haridwar are :
An impartial and high-level investigation should be conducted into the Keshav Thalwal case. Strict legal action should be taken against police officers and employees found guilty in the investigation.
The letter also prominently demands a CBI investigation into the death of late journalist Rajiv Pratap.
The Commission has requested for appointment with the Chief Minister to discuss these issues in detail.
The Commission has also forwarded a copy of this letter to the Director General of Police (DGP), Uttarakhand.
It has requested that, given the seriousness of the matter, the investigation be completed as soon as possible and the Commission be informed of the action taken.
This letter was written by the national members and officials of the Commission, including Dr. Aan Singh Kandli, Dr. Shanti Raghuvan, Dr. Vijay Singh, Dr. Chandra Shekhar and Dr. C.L. Bharti (United States of America), are present.
