HARISH RAWAT WANTS HIS SON TO CONTINUE HIS POLITICAL LEGACY – PRESTIGE ISSUE ON HARIDWAR SEAT
In Congress Haridwar parliamentary seat seems to have become a prestige issue for former CM and CWC member Harish Rawat from where he is adamant on demanding ticket for his son Virendra Rawat, a former chief of Uttarakhand Youth Congress.
While Congress has kept the tickets of Haridwar and Nainital in abeyance from where Harish Rawat has contested earlier and lost with good margin, the BJP has already declared its candidates in almost all the five parliamentary constituencies of Uttarakhand including the seat of holy township going to the former Uttarakhand CM Trivendra Singh Rawat extremely close to union home minister Amit Shah.
According to sources the Congress high command has asked Rawat to contest from Haridwar instead of asking for ticket for his son Virendra Rawat who had been the Youth Congress chief of Uttarakhand ofcourse due to his being the son of a Congress heavy weight.
However, he had politely turned down the proposal giving health reasons but stuck to his choice/ desire to oblige his son Virendra Rawat by making him the party candidate from here.
Rawat had met the general secretary (organisation) and had detailed discussion in this regard. It is believed that the general secretary K.C.Venugopal had after discussing the issue with Congress chief etc told Rawat that it won’t be possible to give ticket to his son, being young and politically inexperienced to contest as MP candidate from Haridwar. The top Congress leadership had asked Rawat to ask his MLA daughter Anupama Singh to contest instead, but since she is pregnant these days it won’t be possible for her to accept this proposal.
Kindly recall that earlier Harish Rawat’s wife had also contested from Haridwar parliamentary constituency but had lost.
Anyways, the crux of the story is Harish Rawat wants to make Haridwar a private limited company and wants Congress ticket for his son to continue his legacy said a BJP leader on the condition of not disclosing his name.
The logic is – since now the former Uttarakhand CM Dr.Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank has been denied ticket , the supporters of his would make things difficult for former Uttarakhand CM Trivendra Singh Rawat enabling Congress to have better chances to win this seat.
However, Congress wants Harish Rawat to contest than his politically novice and inexperienced son of Congress party really want to win or give a strong fight to BJP heavyweight Trivendra Singh Rawat reveal sources.
Meanwhile, there are also reports that an influential lawmaker from Khanpur, former owner of a regional news channel ” Samachar Plus ” and Khanpur Roorkee MLA Umesh Kumar has met the chief incharge of Uttarakhand Kumari Shelja and is secretly hobnobbing for Congress ticket from Haridwar. Umesh Kumar had conducted a sting operation on the then CM Harish Rawat at Jollygrant Airport in 2016 regarding horse trading etc when Rawat’s Congress government was destabilised due to Congress several lawmakers shifting loyalty to BJP finally joining it.
Similarly the former chief ministers of Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh Kamal Nath are asking for tickets for their sons and after Sonia Gandhi’s winning from Rajya Sabha leaving Rai Bareilly in lurch due to health reasons and Rahul going to Wayanad, Priyanka Gandhi is in dilemma as to where from she should contest to ensure her sure sort victory.
