Harish Rawat seeks apology and assures that he will clean a Gurudwara with a broom in Uttarakhand

Punjab Congress’s infighting between the chief minister Captain Amrinder Singh and state Congress President does not seem to come to an end despite the Congress chief Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi having several rounds of discussions with both the warring leaders including the central party incharge of Congress affairs in Punjab, national general secretary Harish Rawat.

As this was not enough Harish Rawat who had gone to pacify both the factions on the directive of the Congress leaders Sonia and Rahul Gandhi himself got entangled in a controversy over his statement on “Punj Pyaraas”, at Punjab Bhawan, Chandigarh, compelling him to issue apologies and give assurance that he is ready to sweep with a broom entire Gurudwara as a mark of atonement for hurting the religious sentiments of Sikh community.

On Wednesday the All India Congress Committee general secretary In charge Punjab Congress affairs Harish Rawat sought apologies for his controversial statement comparing the Punjab Congress leadership with “Panj Pyaras”, hurting the religious sentiments of the Sikhs.

The controversy erupted on Wednesday when Punjab Congress incharge Harish Rawat had compared the Punjab Congress chief and four working presidents with “Punj Pyaraas”, (held in high esteem by Sikh community ) in Congress Bhawan at Chandigarh where he had gone to convey the central party high command’s message to resolve the ongoing crisis between the state chief minister Captain Amrinder Singh and Punjab President Navjyot Singh Sidhu.

On witnessing the annoyance of the people of Punjab and SAD over his objectionable statement Harish in his Facebook page realised and accepted his mistake on the ” Panj Pyaara statement and sought apologies.

Accepting his mistake, Rawat wrote that sometimes you use such words to express one’s reverence leading to objections on them.

I too had committed a mistake ( error) by comparing my respected state President and four working presidents as Punj Pyaraas said Rawat . He further said that he had been a student of History and the forerunner status of Punj Pyaraas can’t be equated or compared with anyone else.

He catagorically accepted that he had committed a blunder to hurt the feelings of the people for which I seek earnest apologies.

While assuring the Sikh community about his high respect and reverence towards Sikh religion and community and it’s high traditions Punjab Congress incharge Harish Rawat announced that he will clean a Gurudwara in Uttarakhand as a mark of his, atonement for the error committed by him.

The Shiromani Akali Dal had realised a serious objection over Harish Rawat’s statement urging the government to lodge an FIR against him for hurting religious sentiments of the people of Punjab. The SAD general secretary Cheema had in a statement said that Harish Rawat should know that “Punj Pyaraas” Hold highest significance and reverence for the Sikh community. I will go to Punjab and appeal for lodging of an FIR against him said SAD leader Daljeet Singh Cheema.
