Government medical College in Haridwar likely to privatise. Angered medical students protests. Build at the cost of staggering Rs 800 crores !

Several students pursuing their MBBS from Haridwar Medical college are furious and have protested holding placards and raising slogans against the government for privatising the Haridwar Government medical College which was built after spending more than 800 crores of rupees from public exchequer in hundreds of acres of land. The brilliant students who had wasted their one or more years in extra coaching and hard studies in order to seek education in government medical College are today the most worried lot saying that they will oppose this privatisation of the Haridwar medical College tooth and nail even if it amounted to protesting in front of the CM’s office, DM’s office or Uttarakhand of central health minister’s office. In Uttarakhand and elsewhere the government institutions are being privatised being given in private hands at throw away prices not bothering for the careers of the medical students. The health sector in Uttarakhand is already in doldrums where there is acute scarcity of medical colleges, hospitals, health centre , maternity hospitals and district hospitals which have been transferred to private parties under PPP. There have been hundreds of instances of patients dying in the way after being taken to hospitals in township and cities on palanquin or make shift arrangements. Several pregnant women die in the way delivering their babies. The Ambulances are in the sorry state of affairs not available readily to carry the patients to nearby hospitals. There is tremendous dearth of surgeons, specialists and eve trainee doctors in government hospitals with patients compelled to seek treatment in expensive private superspeciality hospitals this selling their lands and properties to meet the exorbitant expenses treatment. The privatisation of the Haridwar medical College will prove to be the biggest scam of the Uttarakhand health department so far! The medical college built in Haridwar by spending more than 800 ₹ crores on hundreds of acres of precious government land, in which the first batch is studying, is now being given to private hands. Was this government institution worth nearly 1.5 thousand crore ₹ built for a private company? It is surprising that the name of the “Sharda Educational Trust” to which this award is being given was being discussed in the corridors of the Secretariat for the past two months. This is an amazing commitment. Children who take admission in government colleges will get mark sheets of private colleges! Thank to the state government. Sounds to be just coverup in a state which already has maximum private hospitals and people compelled to seek expensive treatment for their critical illnesses having no governmental support with health sector already in doldrums resulting in massive migration to cities and metropolises and thousands of villages becoming ghost villages with outsiders buying maximum of Uttarakhand lands spoiling its demography and political leaders allegedly minting tremendous profits.
