Good number of activists hold a candle march demanding early capital punishment to the culprits of Damini of Najafgarh
Good number of social activists, men, women, few journalists, literateur n poets today participated in the candle march organised by several social organisations of Uttarakhand active in Delhi, demanding capital punishment to the brutal culprits of Damini of Najafgarh termed as human beasts who inflicted 21 deep wounds to the deceased after gang raping her in the musterd field of Haryana Rodhayi village, brutally pouring acid in her eyes including inserting a broken bottle in the private parts, literally crossing all limits of a diabolical murder.
The furious and badly angered demonstrators, especially women activists holding play cards and candles in their hands were raising slogans demanding capital punishment to the obnoxious culprits.
The protestors in the candle march took round of Jantar mantar with large number of policemen following them, asking them not to violate the supreme court orders and finish the protest as soon as possible.
Prior to the candle march, several men and women volunteers and leaders including Ganesh Gani Khugsal, journalist n poet from Pauri, Garhwal while addressing the protestors appealed to the honourable judges of the supreme court to grant capital punishment to the hardened criminals for their most heinous crime granted capital punishment earlier for gang raping, abducting and then killing a 19 year old girl for not fault of her on 9 th February, 2012, a year before the horrendous murder after gangrape of Damini of Vasant Vihar, whose culprits have already been hanged. Sunil Negi, president, Uttarakhand Journalists Forum said justice delayed amounts to justice denied.
The candle march cum vociferous demonstration was a grand success in terms of good attendance of participants who raised slogans demanding nothing less than capital punishment to the culprits presently languishing in Delhi’s Tihar jail, having appealed in the apex court seeking mercy by converting the capital punishment to life sentence.
It may be recalled that Damini of Najafgarh was brutalised and diabolically murdered after gang rape on February 9, 2012, after being abducted by four criminals from Qutub Vihar while she was returning home from her duty, the only earning member of the poor family, with her father Kunwar Singh a daily wage earner with meagre salary.
The anguished and traumatic father Kunwar Singh n mother of the deceased Damini have been running from pillar to post since 2012.
After tremendous struggle, candle marches and protest demonstrations by late Anita Negi Gupta, a social n NGO activist and the women of Qutub Vihar including various social organisations and activists of Delhi and media hype of the issue, the Dwarka Sessions Court granted the criminals death sentence, upheld by the high court of Delhi, later on.
The case is currently in Supreme Court with the case lingering over and over again with no ray of hope to the traumatic poor parents.
Today’s candle march demanding expeditious capital punishment to the culprits of Damini of Najafgarh, was also attended by the parents of Damini, urging the apex Court to give them due justice as was accorded to the culprits of Damini of Vasant Vihar moving bus by hanging them till death.
The candle march was jointly organised by Uttarakhand Ekta Manch, Garhwal Hiteshini Sabha, Lok bhasha Samiti of Uttarakhand, Uttarakhand Journalists Forum, etc.
Prominent amongst those participated in the candle march were President of Uttarakhand Journalists Forum, Sunil Negi, Uttarakhand AAP Prakosht Brijmohan Upreti, Bittoo, East Delhi BJP district president Vinod Bacheti, Ganesh Khugsal Gani, poet n journalist, Anil Pant, social activist, Dev Singh Rawat of Pyara Uttarakhand, president of Swadeshi Uttarakhand Pramod Raturi, Prema Dhoni, Mahavir Singh Rana, Sanyogita Dhyani, Rakesh Gaur, actor, Ramesh Ghildiyal, poet, Roshni Chamoli, theatre activist Rakesh Gaur etc.
About a decade has elapsed and the anguished and traumatic parents of Damini of Najafgarh have not got due justice with the capital punishment sentence that has been upheld even by the Delhi High Court considered as the rarest of the rare case.
