A toast to the victory of internal democracy
Going to the AICC office on crowded days is normally a claustrophobic experience with everyone trying to get close to the VIPs and the Chamchas trying their best to keep them at arms distance.
But the number of Congress leaders who have managed to get close to Mallikarjun Kharge the newly elected AICC President and get photographed with him after his historic win in a well fought election shows that the winds of change have started blowing in the Grand Old Party of India.
That the whole lot of so-called G23 leaders (a term created by a newspaper) put their lot behind Kharge and even filed his nomination papers was a welcome sign.
An indication that the welcome the Rahul Gandhis Bharat Jodo Yatra is getting by the people and even the toughest media critics has impacted these so-called rebels as well.
The Indian National Congress may not be the biggest or the richest political party of India but by conducting its internal elections smoothly and installing its new incumbent, with the smiling Gandhis in attendance, proves to the world that there is none like the Congress.
It also proves that when Mrs.Sonia Gandhi, who very firmly and politely declined the offer made to her to become Prime Minister in 2004 on a platter her decision to decline was as genuine as it was this time to give up her post willingly.
And those who take jibes at Rahul Gandhi by calling him Yuvraj know that the post of Prime Minister was his for the asking when the Congress was in majority are as clueless about his charismatic and endearing smile all through the hectic Bharat Jodo Yatra as they are about the enigmatic smile of Mona Lisa.
Kudos to the Dynamic Dynasty to let a hundred flowers bloom and posing a challenge to the Nagpur family (Sangh Parivar) to allow a free and open election instead of throwing deserving candidates into Margdarshak Mode!
