Global warming leading to speedy Glacier melting is resulting in lakes becoming over expanding in Uttarakhand Himalayas posing threat to human lives. Being closely monitored through satellites !
The increasing temperatures due to global warming and climate change, especially the expeditious melting of Himalayan glaciers have compelled the seismologists, earth scientists, and ecological experts to think very seriously over this development.
The record breaking surge in temperatures of metropolises of the country including the national capital and the Himalayan hill areas have finally become a hot topic of debate with even the former advisor on environment n forests with NITI AYOG discussing this pivotal issue threadbare in Press Club of India the other day warning countrymen to be aware of the increasing global warming as this is not the matter of concern for those living in the Himalayan states but also for those living in Delhi, Mumbai, n other metropolises of the country leading comfortable and luxurious lives. In addition to this, the multiply increasing forest fires in the hills of Uttarakhand n at the pan India level compounded with emission of green house gases on massive scale due to uncontrolled construction of buildings, the jungles of concrete , use of cars n forest fires emitting carbon dioxide on massive scale n widespread deforestation in the name of blind unfriendly development at the cost of environmental degradation with footfalls also increasing multiply in the name of spiritual tourism have added to the melting of glaciers and moving backwards.
According to a latest news report the impact of global warming is directly affecting negatively the health of the Himalayas as the Himalayan glaciers are speedily melting leading to not only creating the water scarcity but the lakes are expanding excessively posing immense threat of them getting burst in future with human loss to be enormous including loss of humanity n properties. According to the concrete studies of the earth scientists of Wadia Institute based at Roorkie, Uttarakhand in Uttarakhand out if many expanding lakes two have been selectively found extremely dangerous.
The lakes crossing all danger levels are being monitored constantly by the scientists because of these lakes really burst all the human lives coming on its way, villages and projects shall be terribly destroyed. These lakes are being consistently monitored through satellites with Uttarakhand government taking it very seriously.
There have been formation and expansion of several lakes in Uttarakhand at high altitudes in particular after the speedily melting of the glaciers and the earth scientists n environmental experts are closely monitoring them.
According to scientists some of the over expanding lakes are giving a warning signal especially Khatling glacier in the Bhagirathi Catchment area being speedily melting posing immense risk of future disaster to BHILANGANA LAKE which is multiply expanding. The Bhilangana lake situated at 4750 metres above the sea level has increased by 0.38 square kilometres during the last 47 years. This calculation has been made by the satellite research but the depth of the lake and quantum of water in it couldn’t be ascertained. This is Morin Dam Lake which has been made of loose debris material. Therefore it’s consistently monitoring is very important.
According to news reports the monitoring in the expanding lakes due glacier melting on Bhagirathi and Vasundhara n some other lakes have been increased . According to the Disaster Management secretary Ranjit Sinha the ITBP, NDRF , GSI, NIH n teams of scientists are being dispatched to these lakes in order to assess the latest situation of these expanding lakes. Uttarakhand comes under Zone 5 prine to earthquakes n ecological disasters. The ecological disaster of June 16, 2013 known as Kedarnath disaster was also the result of bursting of the Chorabari lake also known as Gandhi Sarovar after massive cloud burst.
